jack of all trades, master of none
This is a very informative book, but if you are looking for something specific on a given model, you may be out of luck. In fact, I got the Haynes manual from the library, which covers less models and years, and that still didn't mention the vacuum pump for an 86 Sedan De Ville, which is the part that I need to replace. I guess I'll just wing it. Neither book addressed the removal and replacement of the antenna, either, but if I were to do that incorrectly, the worst would be lack of radio reception, or maybe a short in the stock "Symphony Sound" cassette deck, which wouldn't affect me too much. Maybe the Chilton's editorial staff book would be more detailed.

All in all, it's a very informative book, with a lot of general troubleshooting information. Also, it's going to help me remove my engine from my '70 Eldorado quite nicely. I'm going to keep it, if for nothing else, than as a guide for the Eldo engine and as a generic book on automotive mechanics. All the specs are there, and that's nice.

it's very informative
I'm loking forward to reading and getting plenty of know how from this book. I've been looking everywhere for a book on my year's model which is an '89 Sedan deVille. I also have a '78 Ford Fairmont station wagon.

I like a lot
This book was very helpful to me because it helped me fix my own ca

Classic American Airlines
This book reviews the history of the 11 largest trunk carriers flying at the end of the CAB regulated era. Only 6 of the profiled carriers (soon to be only five with the AA purchase of TW)survive today.

I found the book wonderfully quirky...

It features some facinating photography of each carriers aircraft and promotional material, much of it in color.

However the book is uneven in it's editorial content. The amount of material devoted to each carrier is somewhat related to it's size relative to about 1970. Hense, there is relatively more information devoted to EA and TW versus NW and DL.

Lastly, the book fails to cover some of the major events of each profiled carrier. Events such as why EA, TW, and PA failed are given a short shift. In 12 pages of EA history, only 3 short paragraphs explain it's last 8 troublesome years. Employees of each profiled airline will probably be asking "how could the author leave that event out?"

Overall the book gives an detailed perspective of how the industry developed from it's infancy to about 1985, after that the editorial content thins out.

A great book
Beautifully illustrated, with some marvellous photos, this book is a must for anyone interested in airliners, particularly older types.

Although the individual histories of the airlines do, necessarily tend to follow the same narrative format-the early days, the build up during the 1930s, war service, the propliner era, the transition to jets and history thereafter, the book is very well written and I found it particularly interesting, as a propliner enthusiast, for its coverage of the great transition from pistons to jets, beginning in the late 1950s.

The photographs are a good mix of old and specially taken new shots of airline memorabilia etc. In all, an excellent book for anyone interested in the history of America's leading airlines and their aircraft-and I can say that speaking from England

A lovely nostalgia flight into the past
Classic American Airlines brilliantly captures the glory days of America's major airlines from the founding of the industry to deregulation. A fantastic collection of color and black and white period photos, color air to air portraits of currently flying restored vintage airliners in original livery, and pictures of posters and aircraft memorabilia capture the best of times for passengers and airline employees. The shot of a Pan Am Stratocruiser making a low pass over the Queen Elzabeth is just one example of the rare photos to be seen. What came after this time, deregulation and the sad demise of some of the best known majors is left to be told another time in another book. A beautifully produced, highly reccommended book.

Good to know the indirect cost of cars.
Good for consumers and good for vendors

You need to have this guide before buy a car!
If you are in the market for a domestic or foreign automobile "The Complete Car Cost Guide 2000" is a reference guide that you will want to consult before buying. In this guide you will find more than 400 subcompacts, compacts, mid-size, large, luxury and sport cars listed. The guide begins with more than 100 pages of very useful information that helps you understand the economics of buying and owning a vehicle, ie. insurance, finance cost, leasing, safety, tips on buying and more are covered. As you know, the purchase price is only one factor to consider before a purchase. Insurance, maintenance, repairs, depreciation, financing and fuel are just some of the costs that need to be considered. "The Complete Car Cost Guide 2000" also gives you a black and white photo of each model, the dealer and list price, a unique "IntelliChoice" value code (Excellent to Poor), projected ownership cost per year, and much more information on each vehicle.

"IntelliChoice" guides retain their usefulness and value over the years. They are especially beneficial if you decide down the road to purchase a used vehicle. I have guides that go back to 1993 and they are immensely valuable to me when buying a used vehicle for myself or a friend. I also plan to keep these guides with the hope that I will be around 20 or 30 years from now and I will have a guide that covers all the vehicles sold in America for a particular year. Wouldn't it be nice to have a guide today that shows you photos and evaluations of all the vehicles made and sold in 1969 or 1970? Some prospective buyers may baulk at the price, but when you consider that you will be spending between $12,000 to more than $60,000 for a new vehicle then the purchase price of this unique guide is only a minuscule .002% (or less) of your cost. Highly Recommended.

Better than your neighbor!
I am an automobile sales consultant handling six lines of automobiles. We sell Porche, Mercedes, BMW, Infinity, Landrover, and Honda. The hardest thing to tell a customer is that he or she is wrong. This book is great help in educating the customer on fact, not just what his neighbor Bob told him. That way the customer can pick the car that best suits them and not thier friends. Afterall, the neighbors will not be paying the bill!

complete mini?
Excellent book for the reader interested in a complete listing of mini production. It details all the changes in specifications throughout the production life of the mini automobile with excellent and complete black and white photos. What is missing is color pictures and any mention of the "new" mini.

You may love your mini but you'll love this book even more
As a relatively clueless new mini-owner (I bought one on e-bay for my fiancee's birthday present), I knew nothing about the car. Even finding the horn was a challenge. Our Mini is a 1975 1000 model, and the owner's handbook is loooooonnnnngggg gone. This book will help us now and in the future. A good investment!

If You're Into Mini, This Is A Must Own Book
Biggest problem in the Mini world today is people trying to sell you a "Mini Cooper" when what they really have is an Austin or Morris Mini of less "noble" lineage. So how do you as a discerning Mini Afficianado tell the difference? Buy this book. It provides a description of each and every variant of the Mini - even going into geographical unique versions including Spain, Chile, Italy, and Canada - as well as providing information on production volumes and serial number ranges. No colour photos but loads of black and white shots accompany a very descriptive text. It's a great reference book, but very readable at the same time.

Good value
The book has a lot of good color pictures. It is short on text. It is a very good value. Just don't expect to learn too much about the technical aspects of the car.

Ferrari Testarossa.
Fantastic book! Excellent reference for any FERRARI owner or enthusiast!

Excellent quality photos of the last V-12 powered Ferraris.
This book offers 128 color pages of excellent up close pictures of the Ferrari Testarossa, and follows it from the design concepts to the chasis conception. It covers extensive specs and has many under/over/above shots of this classic Italian roadster. One page in particular shows a Testarossa up on a hoist illustrating the rear suspension, and one can clearly see that this particular Stallion has an oil leak! This just goes as testiment to the undoctored realism that this book offers. Don't let the price fool you, this one is great for the coffee table of a true "Ferrarimi"

It is missing vital information on the 2.8L Camaro RS
I looked up the diagram for the PCV and it doesn't show anything about the 2.8L only the 2.5L, 5.0L, and the 5.7L. If it's not in the emissions section of the book, then could someone tell me what part of the book it is in. Also I picked the book up cheaper at Parts America. It was only 12.99+T.

chiltons general motors camaro 1982-92
i have been in the car repair buisness for 6 years and i never went to school for the profession. i have learned all i know from chiltons books they are very knowledable on all aspects of a motor vehicle, from to to bottom. If i have not learned it from the book, i have learned from a friend who has learned it from you. as a female going into a profession like this was very difficult to be accepted so before i did i learned from you. thank you for everything.

Chilton's has done it again!
Their shop manuals have been used by many auto dealerships and shops for years. Now these total car care manuals are model and make specific for the shade tree mechanics such as myself. The total car care series contains everything that I would ever need to know about my car, and the electrical diagrams are amazing. This one's a keeper.

Drove there,and Went There
Have not yet had the pleasure of reading that book,or have not seen it,I would not make a fair review, but I am looking forward to purchasing it,Having drove truck myself, from 1948 until I retired in 1998 I drove the 11 western states, hauled,Black powder, produce when trailers had bunker blowers, swinging meat, beef, lamb, and pork.also frozen meat, export grapes, the kind that was packed in chest, with sawdust, juice grapes to canada, produce from nogales, mex to B.C.canada and have tons of pics.that I took along the way all those years.

Classic American Semi Trucks
If American Iron is your bag, especially 1960's through 1980's then it does not get much better than this. There is a brief history (just the way I like it) and some excellent classic trucks going back to the thirties, but mostly the late 50's onwards dominate this book, especially sixties, seventies, and eighties...my favourite period. Popular classics are well represented, e.g Kenworth A and B models, all the Macks, Peterbilt, Diamond T , Autocar, Marmon, Dodge Bighorn, Western Star, Freightliner Powerliner and even the D400 International. Excellent paper quality and mostly color photos on 160 pages makes this an absolute treasure.

AWESOME!!!!!!!! SUPERB!!!! FANTASTIC!!!
I'd recomend this short but awesome book to ANY truck enthusiast. It has the model and style history of over 18 semi truck manufacturers, as well as awesome photos. JUST BUY IT, OK?

word of caution
the book is nicely illustrated with color (and b/w) pictures.

Bad i found it unsatisfactory mainly because of its incompleteness.
Today armored vehicles they come in versions with A/A artillery,
SS/missiles and S/A missiles. You wont find any information
on these. I think the editor couls skip some old vehicles
in order to provide a full coverage of modern versions like
the finish automatic loading mortar, the russian Chrizantema,
the russian S-300 systems etc.

Not really a complete book, but of good quality.

Outstandingly Thorough and Fascinating
I'm a big fan of weapons encyclopedias. This is one of the best. If you're into AFV's, you can't live without this wonderful resource. Containing over 900 different AFV's from 1915 to current vehicles, they are smartly seperated by country of origin. I was surprised to see the numerous weapons systems that are currently in development. Very contemporary and in touch with the world of AFVs. I would highly recommend this book to fans of Military History, Fighting Vehicles, and scale modelling.

Best ID Book Ever
This book is the best and most comprehensive millitary vehicle identification book I have ever read. I'm an M1A1 tank driver for the US army and I was impressed with the amount of information in this book. I actually used this book to point out flaws on our Vehicle ID test. Now that I have it, all my fellow tankers want a copy.

Farmall Letter Series Tractors
I am restoring a 1951 Farmall M, and purchased this book mainly because the description states that it contains, among other things, factory original decal placement. To my disappointment, however, when I turned to the decal section, there was no info. available for the Farmall M. Thinking I would simply try the Farmall H decal placement section, I found it also to be void of the needed information. Understanding that this particular info. was not available to the author, but perhaps book description could be revised. Otherwise, a pretty informative and entertainig read.

Best survey I've seen of classic IH and Farmall tractors.
The author has done a great job of collecting and sorting out all sorts of interesting details about Cubs, the As through Ms, the 4, 6, and 9-series tractors, and the Super versions. He's also found and reproduced IH's blueprints showing where to place decals on all those tractors, and a whole bunch of terrific color and b/w archival photographs. Those are complemented by very good and useful new color photos with detailed captions, so the book is great fun to look at as well as read--definitely a keeper.

Letter series buffs NEED this book!!
If you have or are interested in any of the letter series (A, B, C, H, M) or the standard tread versions of them (W-4, W-6, W-9) you need this book! Excellent details on almost every aspect of the tractors, charts to show where the decals go, great pictures of restored examples, and details of the variations of each model. I read this book from cover to cover the day I got it and have been rereading it ever since! Great book on Farmalls!
