Chris really knows his stuff
His love of the AMC AMX really shows in this well written book. I've been in the hobby for years and I learned new things about the design process the car went thru to become reality. This is a wonderful documentary of this unique car. An excellent book. His companion Javelin book is also a must have for any AMX/Javelin fan.

AMX Photo Archive: From Concept to Reality
For the first time in AMC history, Chris Zinn has brought to print a pictorial history of the development of the AMX. These rare photographs and comments accompanying them present the reader with a unique insider view of what actually happened at AMC. Chris Zinn has spent years collecting both the pictures and the oral history of the process from the individuals who made it all happen. This publication is a must for the AMX enthusiast, as well as for any person with a casual interest in this unique car. Through the pictures and comments, Chris Zinn shares information which has not been brought to the attention of the hobbyist or the public before. I take great pride in recommending this special publication to all who are interested in what happened at American Motors Corporation to bring the AMX to fruition.

AMX Book long overdue
Having been in the AMX hobby for over 20 years, I was amazed at the amount of never before seen pictures in this book. Mr. Zinn certainly did his homework and should be commended for his dedication to AMC's finest creation. A must for all American Motors collectors.

Great coffee-table book
A great book which covers history of BMW cars, very specific technical details and troubleshooting, informative message posts, and very amusing comics. A very appropriate title. I wouldn't buy this as a service manual (though it does have some great tips, see the Bentley service manual if you need a great tech. manual). An excellent book which I am still enjoying.

BMW-316 1985 year OILSERVICE
BMW-316 1985 year OILSERVICE RESE

Excellent book, by BMW enthusiass for all auto enthusiasts.
This book is a collection of articles written for the BMW Car Club of America magazine. It answers many questions about driving and maintanence of BMW automobiles. Much of the information should be of interest to anyone who enjoys a fine car and driving though, not just the BMW owner. It is full of many interesting topics.

The Car and the City: 24 Steps to Safe Streets and Healthy Communities (New Report, No. 3)

extraordinary and can be read by everybody
First recommendation of Alan Durning: read the book in a bus. Last recomendation: give the book to the person next to you in the same bus. He has reflexion not only about transportation but also for urban planning, and how to avoid policies that in a middle term affect your transportation.

Read this book on the bus!
By far the best indictment of cities built for cars, this pithy, straight-shooting, quick read is full of logical solutions to car addiction. Bristling with facts about the actual cost of cars and car infrastructure, moved along by the success story of Vancouver, B.C.'s West End, suggestions for improving cities livability run the gamut from city planning solutions, to innovative ideas for auto insurance. This book is an indisputable must for city planners, developers, politicians and citizens concerned about the livability of their cities. It's themes are applicable well outside of the Northwest.

Building cities worth living in: put people before cars!
This exceptional book makes it enjoyable and quick to understand what's wrong with how we currently design our towns and cities: making them easier to drive through, rather than making them better to actually be in! Durning provides clear examples and suggests concrete steps for making things better, all the while keeping it simple and human, not dry and technical. A must for citizens and local officials interested in addressing traffic problems and building more livable communities. (See also The Geography of Nowhere, by J. H. Kunstler.)

Great for kids and adults to share
I bought this book because my two-year old son loves trucks, but I was going crazy reading the same kid's books over and over. What's more, spending so much time reading and talking about trucks made me curious too. I bought Colossal Earthmovers so that my son and I could share a book we'd both enjoy, and it's been great. He loves the pictures (which usually include a person in them, giving a good sense of scale). We just had a few parents and toddlers over this week, and the book was the center of attention.

If you're looking for a book that kids and adults will enjoy, this is a great choice.

Colossal Earthmovers
To any one who loves the big machines this book is a must have.

Keith Hoddock has got to be one of the premier authors on this subject. Keith has 10 chapters of some of the best writing on earthmovers that you can find. There are numerous pictures from B&W to color, that show all the different types of machines being discussed.

This book is also loaded with facts and figures about different machines and manufacturers that make it a very good reference guide.

This book will make a fine addition to any earthmoving library.

Colossal Earthmovers(Enthusiast Color Series)
Calling all construction buffs! If you love large machinery but do not have a "large" wallet, this book is for you! Just the right size with a lot of pictures and simple facts and details. This book is also well suited for younger readers interested in earthmoving equipment---but who may not understand all the techno language. A great book and an excellent value. I can not stop looking at it!

Crystal Clear! I'm enlightened!
Brillant...helped me with all my questions on buying or leasing a car. It reads like a novel...plus you learn something useful.

I SAVED A BUNDLE!!!!
The car buying process is an ordeal, to say the least. You never know if you are getting a bargin! With my limited income, I want to make sure that I was getting a good deal, and I did! This was my first new car and IntelliChoice's Complete Car Cost Guide helped me narrow my search and find out what it will really cost to own a car, let alone buy one! Kudos to IntelliChoice for helping consumers save thousands of their hard earned dollars!

Head and shoulders above other buying guides.
This book was an immense help. The text portion of it really helped me focus on what was important to me in my next car, and on how to evaluate cars. The rating and ownership cost section was a real eye-opener. Without it, there is a good chance that I would have picked a vehicle that cost more to insure that I thought, and that depreciated more than I thought. I ended up buying a "best overall value" vehicle, and I'm delighted.

The best Corvette book ever!
This book reads like a novel; its engrossing and fascinating! Great pictures, great story, great writing, great reading. I read a lot of car books - this is well done. It really goes deep into the history of the car, yet is never boring. Highly recommended! This one stays on my bookshelf - I'm looking forward to reading it again another day.

An exceptionally well-written book, with superb photography
As the owner of three Corvettes, I know a bit about Corvettes and their history. This book taught me a great deal more about America's sports car. It is exceptionally well-written, and will be interesting to both the Corvette enthusiast and those who only know that Corvettes mean fun. Randy obviously did a great deal of research for this book, and it shows.

What really sets this book apart from the myriad of others written on this subject is David Newhardt's brilliant photography. A contributing editor to several automotive magazines, David's talent for placing Corvettes in front of unusual backgrounds that complement the Corvettes' lines is unequalled.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever had his or her head turned by a Corvette.

terrific
This was the best book I have ever read in my entire life of 87 years. I am a female and usually I am not taken seriously when showing my curiosity of the best American sports car ever created- The Chevrolet Corvette. I am a diehard fan of this extrodinary automibile, and, I, myself, have a collection of 30. This book satisfied my hunger for Corvette information without all the unneccesary sh*t. I would like to congratulate the author on the creation of an exemplory book on an extrodinary automobile.

Disaster in Dearborn: The Story of the Edsel
Disaster in Dearborn: The Story of the Edsel by Thomas Bonsall is easily the best piece of automobile journalism I have ever read. If you are interested in the Edsel, or just cars of this era in general, Bonsall will simply have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Not only will you come away with a thorough understanding of the Edsel itself, the author artfully puts the whole Edsel saga into context with what was happening with the rest of the American auto industry during time before, during, and after the Edsel's brief lifespan. I honestly could not put this book down once I started it as Bonsall truly lets you feel the anticipation and excitement surrounding Edsel's conception, design, and launch. Quite simply everything about the Edsel and the people who created it is covered in this book. In closing Bonsall impartially takes you through all the theories on why the Edsel failed and brings the book to a very satisfying and thoughtful conclusion. And although primarily not a picture book, you'll find gathered here a small but exciting group of Edsel prototype photos and sketches I have never seen in print anywhere else before. A terrific book for anyone interested in auto history in general and an absolute must for anyone fascinated with the Edsel.

A Definitive History
I've been fascinated by Edsels since childhood, and while I've never been able to own one, I've collected lots of literature about the most famous flop in automotive history. Although there was familiar material in Mr. Bonsall's work, (the arrival of a new full-sized car just as the first import craze was beginning was the product of a decade-long lead time to launch the new make), there was also much I've never seen in print anywhere before--such as Robert McNamara's statement that the decision to discontinue the Edsel had been made even before its formal introduction! From the company's internal politics, to the design process, to the challenges of setting up the dealer network, no aspect of the Edsel's history is omitted. This is an absolute must for Edsel lovers, and should be worthwhile to anyone interested in the Ford Motor Company or automotive history in general.

A comprehensive yet concise history of the Edsel
Bonsall's treatment of the Edsel story is unique in that he first sets the historical stage and market conditions under which the Edsel program was conceived and executed. He does an excellent job of describing the reasons Ford needed the Edsel program, and why the program missed its mark. As Bonsall methodically moves the Edsel story forward, the reader is filled with a sense of impending doom, much like reading about the maiden voyage of the Titanic. Bonsall does an excellent job of drawing together the many disparate influences and elements that together charted the fateful course of the Edsel.

My 2 cents worth
I've owned a copy of this book for over 25 years, purchasing it in the early 1970's. As an owner of a Model A Ford, I wanted more information about the car and its history. This book has an amazing amount of information about the Model A and its birth, changes over the 4 year production run, and great original factory photographs and charts.

The thing that amazes me most about this book is that, even today after almost 30 years after its original publication, the accuracy of what the authors wrote when the book was first published is outstanding! These 3 fellows REALLY did their homework.

If you only own 1 book on the Model A Ford, I recommend this one.

A keeper
Best Model A book around. Lots of photos and information not found anywhere else. Got a copy on loan from the library, and would buy a new copy to keep if it was still in print.

Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics (R114)
Published in Hardcover by Society of Automotive Engineers (March, 1992)
Author: Thomas D. Gillespie
Amazon base price: $79.95
Average review score:

A solid foundation
My background is in computer engineering. As such, I have a basic understanding of kinematics, but approached this book with little knowledge of physics as specifically applied to vehicles.

I found this book to be a perfect first step into the field. It picked up essentially where my knowledge left off and provided solid coverage of the topics discussed. Due to the nature of the book--an introductory text--simplifications often had to be made; in these cases the simplifications were pointed out, often with references to publications covering the areas more fully. Furthermore, I felt that all topics were evenly covered--no one got undue attention.

Basically, the book was just what I was looking for.

My only significant pet peeves are the use of English-system measurements (I am more comfortable with metric), and a few cases of unexplained 'magic numbers' in formulas (it took me a minute to realize that 57.3 is the number of degrees in a radian). And plot and character development were pretty thin (grin).

Highly Recommended
A concise work on the world of vehicle dynamics ... easily the best book I've bought on the subject. A must-read for anyone interested in this aspect of automotive engineering. It only took me about a week or two to get it, even though it said it would take 3 to 5 weeks. Let me know what you think!

Excellent yet easy to comprehend overview of vehicle dynamic
This book provides a thorough yet easy to understand overview of vehicle dynamics and how they affect performance. The mathematical basis for all concepts are provided, as are graphs , illustrations, sample problems, and solutions. I highly recommend this text for anyone interested in vehicle dynamics

How Buy Car Mmp-1

A Must Have
This book was by far the most valuable one I purchased while I was car hunting. I would reccommend it to anyone who has either no experience or overwhelming exeperience with buying cars, and to read it before they buy their next one. A little dated, but a short read with nothing but the facts you need.

What an eye opener!!!
My sister bought this book and saved several hundred dollars at a dealership in Canada and then suggested I buy this book. I bought a Saturn, no haggling, BUT I did learn A LOT about buying a car. There were a few things that I was able to save money on even though it was a Saturn. I have suggested this book to a clerk at Geico and even the person I am dealing with by e-mail in the Customer service dept. at SATURN. The book answers a lot of common sense questions and lets you know about things I NEVER would have thought to ask about. If you are going to buy a car...buy this book first and study it!!!

Excellent resource! Saved me hundreds of dollars. I lent it
This is an excellent book - very easy to read and understand. I was amazed at the tricks that salesmen pull and found the advice very helpful. I lent this book to a friend buying a new car and he saved $200 off what he thought was going to be his best deal.
