Well researched, good source book.
The book contains detailed information on each 356 model. It is perfect for the owner, prospective owner, or fan. It is well-researched and a great assist for the 356 fan.

A very detailed guide to authenticity
I like this book very much. It is a great guide when your looking for authenticity, it's very detailed. It covers all 356 models (Speedster, Roadster, Carrera,...) from 356 to 356C. It has a fair price, so: defenitely worth buying!

The Art of American Car Design: The Profession and Personalities: "Not Simple Like Simon"

Collectible price: $99.99

Not quite everything you want to know about car design.
This book should have been better. Though the author doesn't seem to know it, his perspective is overly slanted to GM/ Harley Earl mindset. The writing itself will only hokd the interest of the most dedicated, and GM fixated readers. If you're looking for solid info on Ford designtriumphs--the '60 Lincoln Continental/ or Mark II, Mustangs, the late 60's T-Birds, you'll be disappointed. Chrysler is similarly glanced over. The interviews are good, but tighter editing would have been appreciated.

Excellent insight into the nuances of GM design
This book rewards repeated reading. The interviews with GM designers such as Bill Mitchell and Bill Porter are encrusted with myriad design nuggets. In particular, Armi's analysis of Bill Porter's work, and the interview with this senior GM designer show a depth of understanding not normally associated with auto design. Porter's language shows the way towards are more mature and reasoned approach to the art of car design and the methods and techniques to achieve the desired end. Anyone fascinated with the sludge years (the early to mid eighties) at GM will also come away enlightened. Of course, to enjoy this book, a professional interest in car design is a help, but especially for students, this book is a must.

Good Book
This was a good book but out of date on many topics. It is a great all around reference or start-up and go book. I decided I wanted to learn about cars so I found this book at a tag sale and now I know the basics. I would suggest this book for its no-nonsense and in-depth approach.

A must for motoring enthusiasts.
I'm an automotive engineering student and I use this book as a reference. It provides information on virtually everything on or related to a car, tools, brakes, suspensions, fuel systems, just to name a few. Besides that, it also provides service and diagnosis information on every system of the car it covers. The language used is simple to understand, and yet blends well with layman's terms. There's also a dictionary on automotive terms in the book. Recommended to motoring enthusiasts and automotive students.

Beat Your Ticket
The information was good for the most part, however, some information is outdated.... for example, the book states that only 3 states consider laser an "unqualified legal seal" for determining speed. This information is outdated according to the Judge in Oregon Court today!!!

None of the ploys indicated in the book helped me at all in court and I was calm, prepared and articulate. I observed others in court yesterday and today to have had more of a reduction in fines, than I did, when they did not testify at all in their own defense!

The decrease in fine I received today hardly covered the cost of the book, never mind the hours of reading, researching the law library and observing trial proceedure.

I think it would be wise for Attny Brown to update the book in the near future!

Very Useful for lawyers & nonlawyers
The author's description of defenses to speeding tickets is very clear and detailed. He describes the classes of speeding laws and the procedures for dealing with each class. Both lawyers and nonlawyers will find it very useful.

Big-Block Chevy Marine Performance: Engine Modifications for Maximum Boating Performance

Basic Book of Big-Block Marine Performance
This book attempts to explain the basics of big-block Chevrolet high-performance modifications in somewhat non-technical terms. This is a great book for those readers who are new to the world of big-block marine high-performance, but is of little value to professional high-performance marine engine-builders and riggers. If you are expecting to buy this book to find out all of the secrets of the great offshore engine builders, then save your money. This book does go through a number of camshafts that have worked well in big-block marine engines, but for the most part, only scratches the surface in this area. The author also advises the reader on some of the different exhaust systems available, but anyone who is interested in this topic usually already has a good idea about what's on the market. There are also chapters on basic high-performance engine building techniques, but this is the same information that you can find in countless big-block Chevrolet automotive performance books that are currently on the shelf at any book store. What I would look for in a book like this, is information on different combinations that the top performance marine-engine builders use as it relates to intake manifold design, available combustion chamber types, compression ratio, valve timing, ignition curves, exhaust primaries, etc., and how all that relates to the power curve necessary for propelling a performance boat - big, small, heavy, or light. Also missing is information on performance marine-engine internal-clearances vs. lubrication and cooling requirements and longevity. All that being said, I would still buy this book again; however, I think that there is a need for a advanced version of this book - either by Dennis Moore or someone else.

Excellent technical detail pertaining to marine applications
Finally, someone has written a technical manual for those of us who like to fiddle with modern gasoline marine inboard and I/O engines. This book has been long overdue! There exists a plethora of books on building up hot-rod automobile engines, but the marine hot-rod has been mostly untouched. Dennis Moore does an excellent job presenting the subtle differences between a car engine and a marine engine, from the carburetor, intake manifold, heads, cam, to the critical exhaust manifolds and marine headers. Though this book is based on Chevy big blocks, the principles are easily adaptable to all makes of marine engines.

I am currently building up a Chevy SB 350 to a 383 "stroker" and have found this book indispensable. I highly recommend it for anyone who tinkers with marine inboards! Nice job Dennis!

Incomplete Story
The book title is incorrect because the story contained within is not complete. There is no mention of the different styles of ventilation control housings underneath the center of the dash panels, in E28 5 series BMW. Illustrations on pages 75, 80 and 96 show different styles E28 vent control and a/c housings, however there is no mention of these differences in any of the text. Appropriate additions should be included in all future editions of an otherwise excellent 5er book.

Own a 5? Own this.
This book has lots of great pictures and articles about 5's.

Nice Photos...Well Presented
Unfortunately thats about it. A better title would be Caterpillar Bulldozers (and a few others). There is no mention of Euclid, Dresser, Allis Chalmers etc. Nevertheless, a worthwhile book.

If you like it when the earth moves, get this book!
This book is a great one for enthsuiasts of big, ol' earth moving machines. The photos make the book one you want to keep out for your friends

Pretty good Caddy book
The book is good in that is has lots of b/w pics, but, I would have wished for color and for it to have included more models. Not bad though.

No color pictures and nothing about the 62 Cadillac models.
The book should have had some color pictures and covered more of the different models of each year and why was there nothing about the 62 models

Very Inclusive
I was very impressed with this book, especially the inclusion of the rare X-11 and other recent cars. This collection was the most comprehensive one I have seen yet regarding High Performance cars that have changed automotive history.

great information source
This is a good book for those interested in the details of Chevrolet performance cars and engines. The only negative would be the inclusion of certain cars. Monzas, Citations, Celebritys, Cavaliers, Berettas, and Luminas have no place alongside the many legendary cars and trucks General Motors has produced.

Chilton's Repair and Tune Up Guide, Volkswagen 1970 to 1981
This manual is of value to the do-it your selfer. I found this book useful in many areas. Chapter 4 on emission controls is well written, with lots of handy diagrams. Chapter 5 on the electrical system was not very detailed. When it comes to those nasty electrical problems, you might be left in the dark looking for that bad wire. In general it's a good book for the VW mechanic's library.
