Comprehensive manual
Much better than the Chilton manuals ... I've owned a couple of Chevettes and I've used both. The Haynes manual has much better procedure descriptions, and wiring diagrams that aren't even included in the Chiltion's books. If you plan to work on your Chevette you should get both books, but you won't go wrong relying on just the Haynes manual.

Lotta good, in black and white
Wealth of information if you are a 9C1 fan...Too bad there are so few colored pics...Any fan would have been ready to pay twice as much and get a full color book !! Also, some pictures bear false information legends...most common mistake, the model year..Disappointing for a book which IS the "ouvrage de reference" in Chevy Cop cars...

Small Block Chevy Drag Race Engine
This book covers virtually all facets of building and tuning small block Chevy drag race engines. Although some of the information is a bit dated, it remains one of very few sources for technical and theoretical reasoning behind what makes a drag racing small block tick.

Chilton's Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth manual -- mighty handy!
If you have an older car (like me), something inevitably fails or needs to be replaced. This manual has step-by-step instructions for repairs and service, showing in detail how to get to each part and do what needs to be done.

It has procedures ranging from minimal to major. It's an invaluable tool to have around and a great addition to your other car repair tools. I used mine several times and keep it in the car for the next time it's needed.

Very Handy
If you've ever had a Chilton repair book before, then you know that they are very handy and accurate. I own a 1986 firebird, and this book has helped me fix all of my little problems that I have had with it.
examples: Fuel Pump, Alternator, Brakes, Oil, Radio Wiring, etc. If you need to know how to repair your firebird (any of the five engines, 2.4 2.8 3.1 5.0 5.7 and even the 3.8 turbo) then you'll find it in here, it even has the little tiny things included in it as well, such as fixing the convertible tops, taking apart the interior trim, and others as well.

The only few bad things are that sometimes the book confuses some of the trim parts with the trim parts on the camaro, and sometimes the diagrams are a little hard to follow.

However this book is still worth getting if you are into fixing your firebird yourself.

Excellent maintenance/repair reference

This book has a clearly written style that is easy to understand. The illustrations are placed near the aproriate text and referenced in the text.

This book contains many useful references for most of the car's systems. However I believe that more information and illustrations should have been included in the Body and chassis chapter which was quite short and bare. The illustrations in this chapter needed a little more detail especially on how the model years differed.

In addition, therre was virtually no information included on the turbocharger included in two model years and how their exhaust systems differed.

All in all a very good looking reference with a great deal of information. Thanks Chilton!

Good for what it has
I found this book very helpful. It features the diagnostic flowcharts directly from the manufacturer's manuals.

***Warning: Does not contain information for the 1990 Chrysler 3.3L engine family.***
