Historical
Especially for European fans like myself, who don't know the history of American grand prix drivers and cars, this is an execelent book. I've just loved it. Five stars, at least.

If you're a fan of Grand Prix racing, you must have this!
Over the course of modern Formula One racing since 1950, there have been two publicly successful and one publicly unsuccessful U.S. Grand Prix racer, but did you know that there are more than 140 American men and one woman who have challenged in Grand Prix since 1906? Tim Considine spent seven years of his life in research for this volume, which includes biographies of many of the racers, period photos by some of the top photographers, including Pete Biro, Bernard Cahier and Dave Friedman, and a time line history of U.S. drivers, teams and tracks in Grand Prix. As a reference alone, this book is worth having in anyone's GP collection, but as a read, it's a "can't put it down" book. You're going to love this.

Aston Martin V-8 (High Performance Series)

Worth searching out if you're into V8s
Michael Bowler worked for Aston in the '70s, so his knowledge of the V8's development is comprehensive. Good detail on the Vantage and Volante, the ownership struggles, the acquisition by Victor Gauntlett, etc... if you collect Aston books, and care at all about the V8s, you need this one.

A must have for those interested in the Aston Martin marque
For this particular model of the Aston Martin Martin marque this book is quite informative. Additionally, it provides photos serving as examples of this model. It's quite essential to the library of any AM enthusiast.

An exceptional chronicle for an exceptional car.
The Audi TT story is one of inspiration and fascination. The book gives the reader a look at the creativity and innovation that went in the design and production of the TT.

I particularly enjoyed the wonderful technical detail, which is so eloquently described and an important part in understanding the TT. The TT Book was wonderfully written and adorned with some of the best automotive photography ever published. I give it my highest rating!

Excellent "biography" of an excellent car
It's interesting to see the gestation of any successful design project. How it was made; what inspired it; what didn't make it; who was behind the scenes. "The TT Book" is fantastic look at evolution of a design concept, and concisely tells how a small focused team of designers and technicians can turn a great concept into a great reality.

The best feature of the book by far is the photography. Included are several shots of the early prototypes and the show cars, as well as the final coupe and roadster production models. And the final section of the book is a series of promotional photos taken in Iceland. Putting a striking car like the TT in that otherworldly environment was truly a masterstroke.

On the flipside, the book does bog down somewhat in the technical details. But, as a "biography" of the TT concept, it does make "The TT Book" a truly complete work.

Auto Mechanics Fundamentals: How and Why of the Design, Construction, and Operation of Automotive Units

Where have you been all my life?
This book is absolutely the best auto text written. It's great for the "want-to-be Mechanic" with minimal understanding of how cars work or even if you have no intention of ever picking up a wrench. Without jargon and pretense the authors make clear all that one should know about what goes on under the hood. The chapters are full of color pictures and exploded diagrams that make sense! This book is for everyone-man, woman, and teenager-who can read (at the high school level) and drives a car. It's as simple as that.

Complexity explained simply.
Goodheart and Willcox are, convincingly, experts in auto technology as well as excellent writers and illustrators. As a certified master auto and truck technician, I often refer my customers to this book for straightforward understandable explanations of the goings on under the hood. When my customer understands how a system operates, he or she is more willing to accept a diagnosis, because it makes sense and the black magic attitude is gone. The automotive encyclopedia has been available since the 70's and each addition is packed with the latest developments that the car manufactures employ to make cars more, fun, economical, and, necessarily, more complex. Goodheart and Willcox are to be congratulated on this and past editions of this wonderful reference guide. Just wonderful.

Great pictures, very INFORMATIVE and interesting!
I purchased this book for my husband who was then interested in purchasing a "cuda". With the information found in this book, he was able to see which "cuda's" would be oof more value since the production of some was extremely limited. After reading the book, we were able to take the knowledge to the Mopar Nationals and wisely purchase a CUDA that is an investment. I would highly recommend purchasing this book. He continues to tell me just how much he enjoys the book. He even took it to the Woodward Cruise here and showed it to his friends. Though I paid $22.95 at the store.......it was worth it!!

Packed with crisp color photos for 64-74 reference purposes.
Excellant book for visual identification of 1964-1974 cars. Text is somewhat general in content, but clear and easy to read. Book also gives production figures broken down by models for each year--a nice extra!!! I was looking for a color visual guide----one with lots of pictures...and this one was exactly what I was looking for. It has more pictures than text.

Comprehensive history of Bentley co & cars. Focus on racing
This is a most comprehensive history of Bentley, the company and the cars. Unique here are the insights into the inner workings of the company provided by the author's extensive research.

The focus is on racing, which was the lifeblood of Bentley. Business and financial details, engineering, design and marketing are also extensively covered.

The book is profusely illustrated with original black and white photos, engineering drawings, blueprints, cutaways and racing scenes. There is also a beautiful section of color plates.

For the Bentley enthusiast this book is an essential. The organization is superb and the depth of coverage is excellent. It is a true delight.

Big Rigs of the 1950's . A worthy follow up to 100 years.
after purchasing Ron Adams previous book 100 years of semi trucks
I was confident this latest offering would be a worthy addition to my, or any ardent truck enthusiasts book collection.
I was not dissapointed!
If you are familiar with Rons previous work you will enjoy the many photos, and good quality ones at that, included in Big Rigs of the 1950's accompanied with his usual short but interesting
brief history and comments.
Big Rigs covers all main manufacturers as well as a few lesser known brand documented in mostly black and white shots, but theres enough color plates (approx 73) to bighten up the book.
All photos are of a good size.
If you are an avid truck photographer or enthusiast of either new
or older trucking history ,in this case American, you will
appreciate this book.

Considering a tractor project? Better read this book!

Sometimes the truth hurts so bad that you just have to laugh.

I had a hard time putting this book down once I started reading. I felt Rog's pain every time he related breaking a part or smashing a finger, and shared his satisfaction with small successes.

He tells the story of the Woodpecker's resurrection with a style and wit that is down to earth; none of the "holier than thou" point of view that's found in so many other books on tractor restoration. This book is not a technical manual, and doesn't pretend to be. It's the simple, real life story of one man's victory over a piece of broken down junk.

I found it be very enjoyable reading, and would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the lighter side of life.

The Essence of Tractor Restoration

Roger Welsch's long awaited second book on tractor restoration has finally appeared. This one was written during his restoration of "Woodpecker" an old unstyled Allis Chalmers WC. The tractor was given to him by a friend after being salvaged from a remote wood lot where it had been left to die many years earlier. This was a restoration he undertook on a dare, to prove he could do it. He did it for the fun of it. Roger doesn't work at restoring tractors, he plays and learns. He finds neat little lessons all over his shop.

The book is log of his restoration efforts. He hopes to provide a newcomer with a guide of just how to expect things might go with a tractor restoration. It is full of mechanical tips and techniques as well as addressing the spiritual aspects of tractor work. He shows us how time in the shop can be healing, even when it might not appear overtly productive. His focus on the process of restoration, rather than the end results, guides his time in shop and shapes his attitude toward the whole project. Learning is not just a goal unto itself, it is also a great reason to buy even more new tools.

Many books tell us how tractors are restored, but only Roger seems to address the question of "why" tractors are restored. He truly portrays the "restoration as adventure" aspect of the hobby. The nature of the friendships that can form around this hobby is also reported.

What's different about this book? Roger Welsch examines the Zen or "head part" of tractor rebuilding. What else is different is that this book includes a lot about the wrong way to do things. The best lessons are learned from mistakes, and Roger isn't afraid to share with us how much he has learned. Additionally, he doesn't assume the reader knows as much as most of the shop manuals seem to assume. Many excellent mechanical tips can be picked up from this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it makes me look forward to my next tractor project.
