A Must-Read for Multi-Cultural or Ethnic Studies Students
This text was an amazingly comprehensive look at the experiences of Hmong immigrants to the United States during the past three decades. I used this book in my Teacher Education courses at a California State University and found that each of students who read it was moved to a new level of understanding of culture, the challenges of the second language acquisition process, and the complexty of the modern immigrants' acculturation experience. It illustrates the difference in cosmology between immigrants and non-immigrants by examining a variety of real life topics through short vignettes. The range of accounts (from teenagers to the elderly) gives a breadth of perspectives that adds to the value of this text as a classroom resource. I recommend this text to high school and college instructors in reading, writing, history and multi-cultural studies courses as a required text or a supplemental reading assignment for student projects. For others, if you want to expand your mind and look at the world and life through the eyes of others, this is a compelling book that will not quickly be forgotten.

Highly recommended for students of military aviation history
MiG Alley To Mu Ghia Pass: Memoirs of A Korean War Ace is the military memoir of Cecil Foster, a young man born into poverty and hardship, and who joined the Army Air Force in 1943 as a private, eventually retiring in 1975 as a lieutenant colonel. Foster served a multitude of tasks during his Air Force career, but perhaps the most outstanding and remarkable part of his autobiographical history was his service as a high-scoring ace pilot in the aerial battles of the Korean War. Foster's record of nine destroyed MiGs earned him 12th place on a list of 38 aces. Each of the aircraft he destroyed was shot down in a section of airspace called "MiG Alley," which runs along the Yalu River that separates North Korea from China. MiG Alley Mu Ghia Pass is an involving, personal look into one of the countless people who have staked their lives to serve and protect the United States of America. Highly recommended for students of military aviation history in general, and the Korean War in particular.

Vw Beetle & Karmann Ghia Automotive Repair Manual (Haynes Re
This is a great book for the Do-it your self, back yard, VW mechanic. Information is easy to find and easy to use. This book has full wiring diagrams. They were color coded at one time, but the black and white version is still quite useful. I find this book has much more info than the Chilton repair guide. If I had to choose one manual for my VW, this would be the one.

Too Expensive, No Index, Not Good for the Average Joe
If you were to only buy one book on how to repair your Bug, DON'T buy this one. While it does contain a lot of information, it has several problems.

First, it does not have an index. Second, it does not even have a centralized table of contents. Instead, each chapter has its own table of contents.

Next, the book assumes you are working in a profesional mechanics shop, with hydraulic lifts, etc. This was made clear to me, when the section on removing the engine said to LOWER the car to 3 feet.. Shoot, I barely got the car above 2 1/2 feet with my floor jack, and that was using wood props. Also, they tell you to use lubricants that are not common, which can be substituted with a more common lubricant.

If you have the money to blow, it probably is good to have this guide, as it is the "official" one, but I would recommend the Haynes guide above this one any day.

Best Book Available!!!
This is by far the best shop manual available for the Beetle and Ghia! I have a 1970 Volkswagen Beetle Type I, and the Bently Manual has helped me more than any other book during the car's restoration. It has just about all the information you could need from a manual. And hey, it *is* the official service manual, published for Volkswagen!! There is only one downside which is not a major problem but certainly would help: there's no Index.

Excellent book, however I wish the wiring was in color.
I purchased your book from a local VW Dealership and paid a lot more than what you sale it, but the book was still worth to me what I paid for it. My only disappoint is with the wiring diagrams lines are not in color. I ordered the book because the one I saw had the wiring diagrams in color. In effect the diagrams are basically the same as those in the Haynes catelog which is about a third the cost. Understand my point here, cost is not the issue the lack of color photos is my dissatifaction. Overall you manual is EXCELLENT, easily 5 STARS. I AM WILLING TO PAY TO FOR A COPY OF THE COLORED WIRING DIAGRAM FOR A 1972 KARMANN GHIA. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE???

Chilton's Repair and Tune Up Guide, Volkswagen 1970 to 1981
This manual is of value to the do-it your selfer. I found this book useful in many areas. Chapter 4 on emission controls is well written, with lots of handy diagrams. Chapter 5 on the electrical system was not very detailed. When it comes to those nasty electrical problems, you might be left in the dark looking for that bad wire. In general it's a good book for the VW mechanic's library.

Good content and details, an easy read...
Good books on Ghias are difficult to come by - This is definately the best I've seen or thumbed through. Details the Coupe's and Cabriolets seperately and covers all the major changes to details through the cars production, backed up with some excellent photographs. Also covers type 3 Ghias.

Necessary to keep your Beetle alive.
Bland but complete instructions. The only problem was the Superbeetle diagrams for 73 and 74. They are not geographically laid out and use a lot block symbols which further confuse the issue. Chilton's is geographically laid out but is in b&w and does not necessarilly differentiate changes from one year to the next.

Poor repro ads and little original info spoil it...
When I received this book, I was hoping for a history of the Beetle Convertible. What I got was a bunch of badly reproduced original adverts and their DIRECT translations into English (with titles like "Drive the VW Karmann Ghia - With Reason" ? ) as opposed to a re-wording in context.

Some of the pictures were quite good, but most looked like they'd been scanned straight out of another book. If they had originally been double-page photo's, then there would be a large chunk missing down the middle of the repro pic, where the original's page spine had been. Fine for someone's website maybe, but not for a hardback publication.

Aside from the first few pages, there was little original information. The remainder of the book was given up to a few odd paragraphs (and of course, the above mentioned 'translations' of adverts).

Overall I felt letdown and if nothing, a bit cheated by this book.
