The Catcher in the Rye--Innocence Under Pressure
Published in Hardcover by Twayne Pub (June, 1993)
Author: Sanford Pinsker
Amazon base price: $21.95
Average review score:

if you want to know why this is great you will have to read
this is an amazing anti-depressant. on the one hand it is the story of this really sad and depressed guy with a warped attitude in life, yet it is his innocence masked by his arrogance that is so touching. it is about this simple man with simple dreams and simple frustrations...someone like any of us! it is this simplicity that is so beautifully extraordinary. well the most emotional scene is when he breaks phoebe's cassette...i almost cried. the author is so powerful when it comes to playing with words and situations that a simple cassette breaking can bring tears to one's eyes. hats off.

The real chaos
I got this book as a bootleg xerox copy from a friend! It is a bunch of articles by real chaos researchers in their own language. Some of the examples don't program up to work and there is really no code, but the real chaos mathematics is here! By the real researchers in their own words: Arun Holden is only the editor?! Eben Holden
Published in Hardcover by Indypublish.Com (February, 2003)
Author: Irving Bacheller
Amazon base price: $43.99
Average review score:

great historical fiction for all ages
Irving Bachellor's Eben Holden is great historical fiction for all ages. It tells the engaging story of a young boy and his uncle as they struggle to survive, relying on common sense and good old Yankee ingenuity. Bachellor's creation of local color is particularly captivating for those of us who live in the North Country, but good reading for all. Just as those who read Mark Twain need not live in Mississippi to fully experience the greatness of his works, readers of Eben Holden need not live in or be familiar with Pierrepont, New York, and its environs to appreciate the values and suspense of his story. I am purchasing the book for Christmas presents for those relatives aged 10 to 78. It's a great story for all which will elicit good conversation-- a rarity in this day and age. Read it and share it; you'll be glad you did.

The Encyclopedia of Gemstones and Minerals by MARTIN HOLDEN, is one of the most satisfactoring reference book that I have read. What makes this encyclopedia special is that the readers can easily find whatever they need to find without searching the index or reading the whole table of contents! Everything is alphabetical! If You need to find anything about crystal systems, what you need to do is just to check the letter "c". What you need is always there... Ethics for Managers

Used price: $44.90

Truly Magnificent!
Philip Holden should be very proud of this magnificent book. It is right up there with the best books I have ever read. I am so thankful to have discovered it. Ethics is a vital topic in today's world and we could all learn a great deal from this book - not just for business, but for life itself. When I read a book such as this, I use an orange highlighter to mark the best points - my copy is now multi-coloured on every page! Reading it has given me great joy and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

My only concern is that it may not sell well and what a loss that would be to so many people; the cover is somewhat drab and the price, in comparison to other books, is enormous. But, if ever proof was needed that a) you can't judge a book by its cover, and b) good books are great value at any price, this book sure proves it. I intend to buy several hundred copies for our offices. It will become COMPULSORY reading for all our managers. At least this will ensure that it goes some way toward getting the readership it deserves.

Mr Holden, thank you for your book with its great content, its clear writing and the wonderful effect it will have on so many people. I hope it becomes a classic. You have made a great contribution to our world with your effort and diligence.

To all who read these comments, I urge you to press the "add to my cart" button. You'll be very glad you bought this book.

God willed it : stories of the 19th century missionaries from the First Religious Society of Holden Massachusetts
Published in Unknown Binding by Penobscot Press ()
Author: Jane P. Neale
Amazon base price: $29.95
Average review score:

Easy & interesting reading ...much more than anticipated.
Was amazed to find a book on such an osbcure subject as missionaries from Holden, MA. My interest is personal. My ancestors were missionaries to Hawaii from Holden. I expected some mighty "dry" reading given the topic, however, Ms. Neale's style of writing is anything but dry. She tells the story almost as if she were a participant. I felt as if I were seeing this great adventure thru her eyes. It was quick and easy reading. Even family members not interested in genealogy found the book good reading as a history of the times....a must for anyone concerned with Massachusetts/Hawaii/Missionary history.

Grandma Hallie makes it big
Hallie Paschal is my Grandmother. When she told me five years ago that she had started writing a book I was astonished. After the first draft was completed,I was one of the first to read it. That was when the real shock hit me. My grandmother had just written a awesome book about a young girl, Josie, trying to peice her history together through old letters found in her attic. The Holden Saga is a walk through one family's family tree and a time warp to early spanish explorers. I know personally how much research and time went into this masterpiece and want everyone, everywhere, at any age to read this glorious novel. It is a classic for many generations to come.
