Holden's Heart is my favorite Seekers books
Holden's Heart is my favorite of my three Seekers books by G.J. Linko. Holden finds himself in quite a bind when his father accepts a job out of state. Holden feels like he lost his dad during the divorce, and now he is losing him all over again. It is so hard though, because EVERYTHING else is falling apart too. He is not acting like himself, not being nice to his friends and not running well in his track meets. Something has to be done before he competely falls apart. He has to turn to someone that knows about everything and can help, God. This book made me laugh and made me cry. I know your junior high kids will love it as much.

Very interesting, but too long.
Rampant postmodernism, yet highly unusual, inspiring and deeply intelligent. Murray Bail is weird! He must be! He has taken Australian cultural theory and run away with it. His irreverence towards the whole herd of Australian sacred cows is hilarious and yet written from a well informed historical standpoint. Through humour, he deconstructs the Menzies era and indeed the whole Americanisation of the country from the second World War into the sixtees. Bail also sees the effect that town planning has on its citizens. His description of Canberra is highly informative, downright cynical and yet a real scream. He sees through the sterility of the concentric circles and dead ends of Canberra and associates this strongly with the political mentality of our leaders, who of course, lead us around in circles and up blind alleys! I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in cultural theory, or indeed, anyone interested in an unusually honest and very funny deconstruction of the Menzies era. My only reservation is that the novel is perhaps a little lengthy, given the subject material. Nevertheless, it is well worth a read. John Magee

Evaluates human service online activities
Human Services Online draws some important connections between the ways human services are using the internet and how the information flow is affecting service delivery, social change and resource allocation. The scholarly tone lends to acquisition by college-level libraries as it researches and evaluates human service online activities and speculates on future trends.

In Search of a Warm Room
This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to know what life was like during WWII for the everyday ethnic German. Although not widely known, the everyday German suffered at the hands of Nazi Germany. This is a compelling read of suffering and triumph of the human spirit. It is a must read for all students of WWII.

A fascinating who-done-it
The Wind River Reservation is home to Arapaho lawyer Vicky Holden but her law practice is not getting her enough clients to stay in business. When Adam Lone Eagle asks her to come work with him at the newly opened Great Plans Casino, she asks the advice of two elders whom she trusts. They tell her that it would be a good idea to have an extra pair of eyes inside the casino to make sure it is being managed properly.

From almost the first day she starts working at the casino, she has a feeling that the head of the commission overseeing job hiring is placing people he knows in positions they are not qualified to handle for a kickback but she has no proof. As she delves into the records to get the evidence she needs, Vicky finds proof that Lodestar Enterprises which is running the Casino is committing even worse crimes, but her snooping almost gets her killed. Her friend Father John O'Malley rushes to the rescue but may prove too late.

KILLING RAVEN is a fascinating who-done-it but it is also a manifesto about all the evils that seem to accompany legalized gambling. The author gets a little too preachy on the subject but it is a sure bet that readers will overlook that small flaw due to the exciting and fast-paced story line. Margaret Coel gives the audience a sense of what it is like living on a reservation and why some people can never leave the land they call home.
