Approaches to World Order
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (March, 1996)
Authors: Robert W. Cox and Timothy J. Sinclair

Thought provoking essays
Robert Cox has done a brillant job of taking Political Economy to the next level in this collection of essays. Cox and Sinclair have culled together many of Cox's essays previously published in unaccessible journals. Each essay is prefixed by short bio stetch which very much sets the mood for what follows. Cox's uniqueness lies his open approach to the discipline. Whereas other political theorists have concentrated on the International Political Economy. Cox focuses upon the Global and the forces which go into the making of forms of production, state and world order. Any student interested in the dynamic historical interplay of these structures is well advised to pick up a copy of this book. Although, Cox is a Historical Materialist, he is a Gramscian thus allowing for a greater theoretical openness then some operating in the same paradigm. The essays are meaty and sometimes require reading and re-reading to get into the rthymn. Many are leading to or leading from his seminal book: Power, Production and World Order. Sadly, Cox does not write more.

Guide to world confusion
Robert Cox is one of the most interesting contemporary writers in International Relations. His books always bring a brand new and fresh analysis. This collection of articals represents his great academic carrer and certainly points new directions to the study of the discipline. This book is highly recommended to all students of IR theory.

The Arab-Israeli Conflict: Its History in Maps
Published in Paperback by Weidenfeld & Nicolson Ltd (May, 1993)
Author: Martin Gilbert

Incredible Resource About the Arab-Israeli Conflict
The Arab-Israeli conflict is a fiercely debated topic with numerous accusations constantly being thrown back and forth. For someone just beginning to study the Arab-Israeli conflict, it can be overwhelming. This book is a collection of maps drafted by a professional cartographer to show the real dimensions of treaties, ceasefires, boycotts, and other historical moments in the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Would you like to know exactly which land the Oslo Agreements included?

Would you like to know which parts of the Middle East belonged to biblical Israel?

Would you like to know which parts of Britain's Palestine Mandate they forbid Jews to dwell or buy land on?

This resource can answer all those question and more graphically showing you the exact boundaries of, countries involved in, and other important aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict. I particularly found this resource helpful in disputing allegations by people that "such-and such a percentage" of the land was to be given up in a treaty such as the original U.N. plan for Palestine or under the Oslo Agreements. After showing my fellow debater the actual maps, the arguments were ended since I was in possession of hard fact thanks to this fine reference book.

Sir Martin Gilbert is a well-acclaimed British scholar, who has written numerous titles in the Historical Atlas series, extensively written about the Arab-Israeli conflict, and was also officially appointed to write the biography of Sir Winston Churchill.

I have reviewed the 1984 Fourth Edition, but several editions have since come out with updated information and additional maps to reflect more recent developments. I recommend getting the most recent edition available.

I highly recommend this outstanding resource for anyone studying the Arab-Israeli conflict, whether pro-Arab or pro-Israeli.

DETAILED MAPS OF THE CONFLICT
I recomend this book for those people who would like to understand the Arab-Israeli conflict. The analisys is very racional and doesn't tends to any of the sides. Is very easy to get the ideas; the explanation, based in maps, is very clear and objective. The only misteak about it is the updating. The book's review reaches until 1993. Is known that the peace process is always moving towards an end. The inclusion of some information, like Oslo Agreement and the murder of Isaac Rabin would enrich the book.

Arbitrating Armed Conflict: Decisions of the Israel Lebanon Monitoring Group
Published in Hardcover by Juris Publishing Inc (June, 2003)
Author: Adir Waldman
Amazon base price: $70.00
Average review score:

Lively, Engaging, & Meticulously Researched!
Don't be scared by the rather daunting title, this book reads beautifully and gives even the casual reader a vivid and lasting sense of what it's like on the front line between Israel & Lebanon. While I am sure that this book is bound to become an important academic work, it's also incredibly engaging and accessible and deserves to be read by a wider audience. Waldman is off to a brilliant start for such a young writer / scholar.

This Book Rocks!
Before reading this book I knew just a bit about the Israeli-Arab conflict. This amazing study examines a little-known but fascinating (and important) aspect of Israel's experience in Lebanon. This study is all the more important because of the current situation between Israel and the Palestinians; Mr Waldman offers a close look at a model that was tried in Lebanon and may offer some hope for progress with the Palestinians. Mr Waldman, who writes from personal experience, writes lucidly and in language that makes it easy for even someone with just a rudimentary background to grasp the nuances of the arrangements in Lebanon and the possible implications for the future.Highly Recommended!

Insightful and sensitive look at complicated issues.
I found this to be a very insightful and sensitive look at modern asylum policies in Europe. It is written for a broad audience--from political scientists to students to individuals interested in this very topical and important issue area.

New Look at Asylum in Europe
Recommended for a better understanding of the current crisis facing Europe and the United States. I grew interested in the topic because everyday there is news coverage, including much in the New York Times.

A MUST BUY!!
Hi, I recently bought this book. I normally do not buy cookbooks but when I started flipping through this I knew it was worth purchasing. The recipes are delicious and easy. They are shown with pictures which makes it easier. If you want to try some different cuisines this is the one to get and try. I am glad I did.

The Around the World Cookbook
This is the best cookbook I've found yet. I am fond of discovering new spices and exploring other cultures through food. This cookbook perfectly replicates the true authentic tastes from places all over the world. Every recipe has a colored picture and the directions are clearly stated and easy to understand. I highly recommend this cookbook.

Great photography
This book is great because not only are the pictures wonderful, but they were able to get pictures of those things that tourists are not allowed.. A definite must for your coffee table.

Full of fascinating and wonderful pictures
This book truly gives a reader the full experience of what makes Spain so beautiful, its art and architecture. Many of these beautiful places in Spain, the traveler is not able to take pictures, so this book captures the beauty of these places in a way that no amateur photographer can imagine being able to. The definitive book on the National Endowment for the Arts
It is a shame the publisher reportedly pulped the unsold copies of this seminal book instead of permitting the author -- and others -- to purchase them. This book gives the best account of the background to the NEA controversy and explains why the National Endowment for the Arts has been a bureaucratic mess since it was first set up in the Johnson administration. If anyone wants to know why there is still controversy about the subject, this book is the place to begin.

An indispensible and brilliant book about the NEA.
Finally, an objective and impartial history of the troubled National Endowment for the Arts. Fascinating to read, engrossing in its details, brilliant in its analysis, ART LESSONS is a "must read" for anyone who wants to understand why the NEA has gotten in the trouble it finds itself. A perfect 10

The Art of Political Warfare
Published in Paperback by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (September, 2001)
Author: John J., Jr Pitney
Amazon base price: $14.95
Average review score:

A must read for anyone interested in politics
In light of the recent election and it's fallout, we've all become familiar with the use of military terminology in political commentary. In The Art of Political Warfare, Pitney shows how similar the philosophy and strategies are in these two seemingly seperate arenas. Perhaps Pitney's greatest achievement is writing a book that is clear and interesting enough for anyone to enjoy while also breaking new ground and writing on a level suitable for academics and political experts. Anyone who truly wants to understand American politics in the 21st century simply must read this outstanding work.

The underside to politics
WOW!

This book not only shows you the relationship between politics and war but also uncovers the real reson why politicians do what they do. Pitney uses well known events as examples to support his writing. From Nixon to Clinton to Newt, Pitney discusses their triumphs and pitfalls, and what they did to achieve them.

The Art of Political Warefare is not just a guide to war and state and local politics but can be applied to corporate politics as well. I am requiring my staff to read it.

John, keep up the good work!

The Art of the Tale: An International Anthology of Short Stories

A real find
I'm a teacher of a small short-stories course, and it is harder than you'd think to find a collection of short stories that shows true variety. _The Art of the Tale_ is one of those rare ones--it is truly international (most that claim to be are actually feature nearly all-American or all-British writers) and varied in subject (many collections are devoted to a theme--which is fine, but not suitable for my purposes). On top of that, it is HUGE, with over 80 stories, yet lightweight enough to carry around easily, and the price easily beats any other comparable collection. (The last one we used had 1/3 the stories for nearly triple the price.)

And even better, this is not yet another collection of all those "standard" stories that seem to appear again and again in every collection. Halpern did include many great authors, but for the most part he sought out less-well-known stories by those authors, so I can share the joy of discovery experienced by my students.

Collection of most profound literature I have encountered.
I don't believe that I will ever uncover a more diverse, richly rewarding and profoundly influencing introduction to the higher planes of human endeavor than I have in this single book. The diversity of style from ultra modern to classical is extreme and deadly effective. Intellectual food for will be scarred for life with a painful awareness of the insanely limitless and tenuous boundaries which we think defines our inner psyche from our tangible world, and of the realms within human societies. To attempt to explore the works within this book is taking a major step in gaining an awareness that will only serve to further the cause of mankind, and serve as a weapon against those that would attempt to hold it back

Asia for Women on Business : Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea

Very Useful for frequent or first time traveler to Asia.
I studied this book for 2 weeks before my first trip to Korea and Hong Kong. Wow! Very informative with lots of basic but important details about meeting rituals, business card etiquette and tons more! My Boss who has been traveling to Asia for 16 years wants a copy of this fabulous book!

A must read for women traveling to the "Four Tigers".
Our consulting staff recommends this book to all business women travelling to Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea. For each country, it covers rules of business and social etiquette, gift-giving, how to handle what westerners consider to be sexual harassment, a list of recommended hotels, restaurants and "in" nightspots, and helpful suggestions on how to conduct business successfully in the local culture. Truly a bargain at this price. John R. Jagoe, Director, Export Institute.
