Highly recommended!!
This is one of the best quilt books I own. It is jam-packed with tips and suggestions and the pattern directions are clear and VERY easy to follow. The quilts are simple, yet elegant. This is a great book to leave on the coffee table for anyone to look at. Lynette Jensen's quilts are beautiful. I can't wait to purchase her latest book.

A book that is used time and time again...
This is one of my most used quilt books. The quilts are beautiful, and Lynette Jensen not only gives suggestions for color choices, but I like that she also gives suggestions on how to quilt your finished project so that it looks beautiful. She also includes exceptional decorating tips with the quilts, particularly if you are a prolific quilter and choose to display quilts more than just by using them to make the bed. The patterns are easy to follow, and there are projects ranging from large bedspreads to small doll-size quilts. A few are particularly beautiful for Christmas, but most of the patterns are for year-round use. Lynette also suggests types of fabric for each quilt ranging from calicos to flannels to corduroy. This quilt book will certainly give you a long wish list of projects to complete!

Simple, Warm, Elegant and (best of all) Easy.
The Thimbleberries line of fabrics are so warm and yummy they are like snuggling in your mothers lap. The patterns in this book are simple, uncongested and just plain calming. They almost force you to slow down and soak up the warmth of a fireplace and the security of your home. If your not on the war path to really impress your friends or to out-do the Jones's than get this for some good ole fashioned patterns that you can imagine your great grandmother stitching. Maybe one day your great grand-daughter will still be snuggling in it.

Beyond 5 Stars!
This book has all there is for the novice and experienced
investors ... . It has all the information relevant to the world of investments, mutual funds, stocks, bonds, indices ....
All presented in as simple way as possible to the man in the street. Yet in it's own way I would think even the expert money
managers will hate to give this book a miss!

Everyone planning to retire should read this book
I was surprised how quick paced and understandable this book is to read. Investment strategies can be very dry. But this book is a fast read and I learned a lot from the author.

I have never been able to stay in the market when it got rough. But this book showed me why I need to stay in, even when all the bad news tells me to get out. More important, I learned that if I use a wide allocation of funds, I will actually have less risk. This was a real eye opener for me.

I am very grateful the author took the time to write this book. It will change my entire approach to investing. Now maybe I will actually achieve my objectives. Thanks

Investment Alchemy
A must read for anyone wanting to know what investing is all about.

Mama & God
This is the story of an immigrant family in the early 1900s. Many times were hard but the family's faith in God brought them through. This is a very easy to read book with stories that put the reader in the setting. The stories, although enlightening about living in that time period, also serve the purpose of building one's faith by seeing how Mama believed God's promises and helped all her children to believe them too. This book is a pleasure to read & the reader will feel better after having read it.

Strong Biblically based role model for wives
I was surprised by how attractive biblical marriage is portrayed within the pages of this encouraging little book. This is not about how to have a happy marriage/family life when both partners are 'wonderful'. This is the life-story of a woman who applied God's truths to her life and trusted in the Lord for the outcome. Her husband didn't suddenly turn into the romantic white knight she may have dreamed about in her youth, but she loved and respected him, even regarding his differences. She walked the walk, sacrificing many things to the Lord, and found that the secret to a happy life was a thankful heart. There just aren't very many Christian books out there that unabashedly take God's word as it is written. So many water it down with situational ethics...this one does not, but what an encouraging and riveting biography for us to follow.

First We Have Coffee
This is an excellent book to read. I have this book and I have passed it around to my friends. It is a very heart warming story. I hope you like it.

Funny, moving, poignant... and fearless.
(Okay, I'm a bit older than eight, but the site wouldn't let me tell you my real age. National Security or something...) Thanks for the Mammogram is Bombeckian (as in Erma). Laura Jensen Walker not only tells us that laughter can heal, she shows us. Her ability to live on the bright side glimmers from each page and through her, we learn to face difficult facts: breast cancer strikes one in eight women, but 100% of their spouses. Yet we can choose our response to the disease; we can decide not to let it ruin our lives.

Alternately showing herself to be our big sister, best friend and cheerleader, Walker has, er, bared all in the higher interest of exposing the stigma associated with breast cancer for what it is: a killer.

But she doesn't stop there. Walker shares perhaps the most telling detail of all, that her own mother is a breast cancer survivor, and passed a steely will and hearty sense of humor on to her daughter. An inheritance that may have saved Laura's life. Discover that as one quote used in the book puts it, "Whoever is happy will make others happy too." (Anne Frank)

I'm decidedly not a crier, but I did cry through the chapter written by the author's husband. I recommend this read-it-all-in-one-sitting title for anyone with breasts.

Silly, Real, Refreshing
Breast cancer is a big deal. Serious stuff. Many women die from it. Other women endure masectomies. Why make light of such a heavy topic? Simple: humor is healing.

Laura Jensen Walker has something to say about breast cancer. She's a survivor. She has faced this beast, and now is able to articulately help readers smile in the midst of a tough time.

In "Thanks for the Mammogram!" Jensen tells her story. Most of the book details a narrative of her diagnosis, treatment and how she survived. However, in reflecting through the most difficult of moments, she draws us in ala Erma Bombeck into candid silliness. It is as practical as it is funny.

Boldly bringing humor into a discussion of cancer marks this book as a standout among its peers. Having lost my mother to lung cancer and flipping through too many solemn tomes of pop-psychology, I read through Jensen's book refreshed. I wished my mom could've read this book. At a certain point, cancer is cancer, and anyone with any cancer would enjoy "Thanks for the Mammogram!"

Each page is a different view of her situation. For example, she spends a delightful chapter on the end of her chemo, and how she and her husband (a 'Disnoid') celebrated this landmark at Disneyland. We read of her struggle to find a decent book to read (unless Mickey Mouse's various adventures appealed to an adult woman, that is).

The chapters are in very chewable chunks--none too long.

With chapters like, "To Baldly Go Where I've Never Gone Before" (a consideration of Capt. Jean Paul-Luc Picard, Michael Jordan and other sexy baldies, she looks for the upside of a hairless head), you, like me, might find a new way of seeing what so many people go through.

She admits her fears, but pushes also the benefits of having a realistic, yet positive view of dealing with breast cancer. Jensen explains her husband's point of view in the whole matter (even letting him write a chapter, "Her Body, His Pain"). She walks the reader through the process, citing how she related to people who had or didn't have cancer.

I fully recommend "Thanks for the Mammogram!" by Laura Jensen Walker. It is a very worthy gift for those whom you love who have cancer, or know someone who does.

Laughing through the Pain
"Almost everyone - whether it's your friend, neighbor, coworker, wife, mother, or sister ? has been touched by breast cancer. The cancer survivors I've talked to over the years say that what helped them through their ordeal was faith and often humor." ~Laura Jensen Walker

What is more healing than laughter when you are faced with a situation you can't control? Even science has shown the healing power of laughter. Cancer isn't funny, but somehow the author finds a way to heal through her own vibrant wit. Many of the chapters are rather serious until the end when she gives the punch line.

This is a book about courage, hope and humor. Laura Jensen Walker demonstrates her ability to face the challenge of cancer and fight it with faith, hope and "mild/laid back" humor.

I learned a lot about reconstruction, chemo and was amazed at how Laura's husband stood by her through the entire process.

"How to Lose Thirty Pounds in Thirty Days: The Chemo Diet Way. The original Slim-Fast liquid diet. (But not one I'd recommend.)" was an interesting chapter to be sure. This spells it all out, tells you what chemo is all about and it isn't fun especially if your nurse forgets to give you "zofran." Yes somehow Laura finds a way to appreciate the effects of rapid weight loss even when it is the result of chemo.

If you want to understand what a cancer survivor goes through, this is the book. I recently read "Knowing Stephanie" which I can also recommend for the detailed information and pictures.

The last chapter on what really matters was also quite inspirational.

Move over, Fox Mulder. Agent Donnelly is here.
In Trish Jensen's latest, "Against His Will," we have the unlikely Combination of Jake Donnelly, FBI Agent, a bulldog named Muffin, Bob and Scooter (the T-Shirt guinea pigs-trust me, you have to read the story to get the scoop on these two), and a lovely doggie psychologist, LeAnne Crosby.

Tough Fibbie that he is, Jake wants nothing to do with Muffin until he finds out his beloved Aunt Sophie has tied his inheritance to his care of the dog, and that in the event of his default, all reverts to the lovely LeAnne. Quickly, we find out why Jake is so emotional about one of Aunt Sophie's properties. He's also suspicious about LeAnne's occupation and her up-scale resort for humans and their canine owner. Certain that she's fleecing the unsuspecting, he decides to play along with the terms of the will if only to debunk the doggie shrink. What evolves is one of the most entertaining stories I've read in a long time as Jake and LeAnne at first circle each other warily and then break down and admit their attraction for each other.

The book had me laughing and, in the end, crying. It was one of those books I wanted to go on for another 300 pages or so *just* so it wouldn't end. My heart went out to Jake and how important his Aunt Sophie and Uncle George were to him. And I loved LeAnne for her ability to get 'close' to him and help him.

I don't know of a better way to spend a couple of summer days, and if Amazon would let me, I'd give "Against His Will" a 6-star rating. I can't recommend this one highly enough and I'm looking forward to Ms.Jensen's next release.

A Fun Read!
This book is a contemporary comedy/drama which is reminiscent of the books of Jennifer Crusie. Jake Donnelly's beloved aunt has died and instead of the cabin in PA that he wanted, she has left him her bulldog, Muffin. With Muffin comes control of her $20 million estate -- but there are stipulations, one being he has to spend two weeks with Muffin at a doggy spa. The FBI agent had other ideas as to how to spend his summer vacation but knows this is the way he will eventually obtain what he wants. He doesn't expect to fall in love with the owner of the doggy spa,LeAnne, an animal psychologist. In fact, he is skeptical at first wondering how in the world this elaborate place was paid for. There is action, too, when his partner at the FBI decides that a trial witness whose life they are trying to protect would be well-hidden at the spa with the Jake. I loved this story and would highly recommend it to readers who like a bit of drama with witty repartee and lots of sexual tension.

It's not puppy love...
FBI Agent Jake Donnelly suspects LeAnne Crosby is a quack who tried to hoodwink his late aunt out of her money. But when he is forced to spend two weeks at LeAnne's doggy spa, he finds she's not what he thought. She's...amazing. And she's teaching him how to get along with his newly inherited dog, Muffin. And maybe he's learning he CAN'T get along with LeAnne. Now, if they can escape the bad guys, maybe he'll have a chance to prove it to her!

Despite being surrounded by dogs, Jake and LeAnne's love is anything but puppy love! Trish Jensen totally rocks!

Give Yourself a Gift of Vibrancy
Both of Ms. Hadady's books are fantastic. Personal Renewal is my favorite. I feel her abundant wisdom is a blessing and a gift of health to us all. Her book is expressed in a concise, easy to follow manner. She addresses healing body, mind and spirit for a complete luminous you! I highly recommend this book to everyone. You will love the way you look and feel if you do. Undo the internal knots and glow!

Wonderful Fabulous
I would first recommend that you read her first book Asian Health Secrets. It is a different way of thinking but from my first hand experience - very healing. I also think that you should know that winghopfung.com has a weekly letter by Letha and has alot of the herbal products available that are mentioned in the book.

One of the best!
I read Asian Health Secrets, and then couldn't wait for her next book to come out--and I was not disappointed. This book dispells all the myths about the "normal" way to age, and instead, shows you a whole new way of looking at yourself. And if you need proof that these methods work, try it and see how you feel. And then take a look at how great Letha Hadady looks. She looks about 25 years old.

The 8th House
Published in Paperback by Wendy Jensen (21 October, 2000)
Author: Wendy Jensen
Amazon base price: $12.95

Great read!
This was a very well written, suspenseful novel. I didn't want to put it down. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of not only mysteries, but the paranormal as well. I can't wait for the sequel!

A Fan
If you like Janet Evanovich, you'll love Wendy Jensen's 8th House. It's been over a year since I read the book and I still smile whenever I think of that story. The writing is snappy, the humor dark, and the characters wonderfully quirky. The only problem, when will there be another one from this talented writer?

Very highly recommended
As a graduate student, metaficiton was the topic of my thesis; that is, writing about the craft of writing within the context of a novel. Many great writers have succeed with the device, including Tim O'Brien in THE THINGS THEY CARRIED and James Mitchner in THE NOVEL. Remarkably, Wendy Jensen also blends metafictional aspects into THE 8TH HOUSE, an addictive paranormal thriller.

Zoe Zignego uses the contents of her psychic dreams to aid police to solve ghastly murders and later spins the stories into best selling novels. Her quest for peace leads her to flee St. Paul and buy a house in Missouri's foothills of the Ozark Mountains. The long abandoned home held irresistible appeal for Zoe, for the woman who can't seem to live with the living seeks the company of the dead rather than being alone. Her roommate is an rascally ghost named Wilbur, who provides comic relief and a mystery of his own.

Repairs to the house, which dates from the 1800s, prove expensive. Zoe needs to quickly generate some cash flow to replace her badly depleted bank account. RelunReluctantly begins a new novel, based on her current investigation in partnership with the Larry Larsen of the St. Paul police department. Zoe's never written a novel prior to solving a crime before; as she creates the story, she takes the reader through the process of the writing. Zoe's very uncomfortable with the concept of profiting from the tales of murder and mayhem, and her discomfort escalates as she realizes that her dreams have become precognitive and that she has a direct psychic connection to the serial killer. One he is equally aware of. As she writes the novel, Zoe recreates the killer's motive, environment and his past. This metafictional quality lends the novel fascinating flair and insight from a unique perspective.

Be careful when you start reading THE 8TH HOUSE by Wendy Jensen, or you may fall into the trap I did, promising yourself just one more chapter until you finish the book at 2 a.m. on a work morning! As a paranormal mystery lover, I was impressed with the creative edge that Jensen brings to her work. In an increasingly flooded arena of strong women sleuths, Jensen has created a heroine who stands out like a rare gem among many beautiful semi-precious stones.

A Fly On the Wall. . .
I'm ashamed to admit that Laura Jensen Walker is a spy. Evidently she has peeped into my life, and the lives of thousands of other women who find themselves on the other side of forty. Thank God we can laugh about it together, and that is exactly what she accomplishes with "Mentalpause". "I'm normal!" I shouted, after reading Laura's hilarious first chapter. I guess I'm not going crazy after all. I'm simply a bright, maturing woman entering a new season of life called "Mentalpause". Thanks, Laura, for the laughs and an honest, humorous look at aging.

THANK YOU, LAURA JENSEN WALKER!
I laughed til I cried! Not only does Laura Jensen Walker relate to those women who experience menopause at the medically correct age, she also speaks to those of us who have gone thru it early in life. AND...she somehow manages to hit every avenue of it without embarassing herself or her readers! The only red face comes from the age old hot flash one may suffer thru while reading the book! There's no reason to suffer thru menopause anymore! Laura has taken that which we dreaded and made it...well, ALMOST fun! Thank you, Laura Jensen Walker for putting into words what my hot flashes have been trying to say for so long!"

Wait? I?m going through some of this already!
I'm in my mid thirties (I think I'm starting to forget my age already) and the other day I was so stressed about a situation I forgot my own address. My husband looked at me strangely and I started to cry. HELP.

After reading this book, I'm starting to wonder. Ok, so that was PMS (right?). According to Laura, PMS is a picnic in the park and you go from PMS to perimenopause. Oh, joys.

I think Laura could survive anything in life as long as she found a way to laugh about it. She has somehow found a way to turn every bad situation in life into a joyful celebration of wit. It is quite refreshing. This is my favorite book so far.

The author of this humorous book was only forty-two when she started having hot flashes. I want to ask her if tossing your covers off in the middle of the night is a sign, but then I remember my husband turns down the air conditioning on a regular basis. According to Laura, she is always turning the air conditioning on full blast when one hits.

I love where she says: "Over the years, I've subjected Michael to plenty of unhappy PMS parties as well. Beginning in our dating days. But since he proposed marriage to me during a particularly emotional PMS attack, I figure he knew what he was getting himself into."

She discusses the joys of hair growing on your face (PCOS can do that too, or so I heard ;) after forty, the fight against mother nature and explains the very scientific and exhaustive list of Middle-Age Terms. Her "How to Take Care of Your Over-Forty Self" sounds so comforting.

The Contents Include:

Metalpause
Who IS that Woman in the Mirror?
The Drop Zone
PMS Is a Picnic in the Park
Thermostat Wars
I?m Havin? a Heat Wave
Playing Connect-the-Dots with My Age Spots
Of Crow?s Feet, Varicose Veins, and Facial Hair

His Mid-Yikes Cxrisis
Not in the Mood
Cry Me a River
Where Have All My Memories Gone?
From Sweet Nothings to Metamucil Murmurings
Mother Said There?d Be Days like This
Don?t Throw in the Towel

If you read this book, you will suddenly understand your mother and what she has gone through, is going through or is going to go through. It is great insight into your own impending doom!

I'm not going without a fight! Pass the chocolate.

Unless...
...you're prepared to confront your deepest self along with the earth, politics, religion, science, and to risk changing your inner and outer self at last and for good, then don't read this book. Jensen spares no one and nothing in his blistering attack on our blind-deaf-dumb-unfeeling selves and culture. If on the other hand, you'd like to find the wonder of yourself and the earth and your fellow creatures (human and non-), then this is the book for you. I promise you, nobody comes out of this book the same. It's a painful, wondrous, moving experience. It confirms your worst fears but at the same time leaves you understanding you are not alone in your feelings about our destructive culture. Knowing that in itself makes the read worthwhile. Thank you, Derrick Jensen.

A Powerful Reading Experience...
Derrick Jensen's latest, A LANGUAGE OLDER THAN WORDS, is one of the most uncomfortable books I've ever read. As such, I suspect it was also highly uncomfortable for him to write. Its poetic use of words and skilled syntax only serve to emphasize, not obscure, the brutal honesty that he puts forth here.

The thesis is a simple one: We are killing the world. It's Jensen's rugged, insightful, and raw analysis of how and why we're doing it that makes me shudder when I read it. Having studied many of these themes before (well-written in books like Daniel Quinn's ISHMAEL), I've not encountered this subject in a way that touches the nerves that Jensen has managed to tap into. Killing the world, after all, is a horrifying thing, and Jensen exposes the horror by shining a bright light on it and analyzing where it comes from.

It's a brave book and a bold statement. And one that will be hated by many, particularly those who have a vested interest in keeping things the way they are. The bottom line is this: if you read this book and find yourself affected by it, there's a chance for all of us. If you read this book and wonder what all the hoo-hah is about, you're too far gone and wrapped up in our cultural ways and vision to ever find your way out. If you read this book and find it threatening to your way of life, then you're the enemy, and you need to reconsider which side of the line you stand on.

I can't think of a higher compliment to give a book than to wish that I'd had it within me to write it myself. I wish I had this kind of insight and courage, and I'm grateful that Jensen does.

I jolt to the spirit!!
I want to thank Derrick for writing this inspiring book. I give him a lot of credit for his honesty; for the ideas contained inside are connected with so many aspects of his life, what is going on in America and on Planet Earth. He brings attention to practices and thought patterns that many people have chosen to ignore.

After reading this, I began to practice listening to the language of Nature even more, and all of the things that she is communicating to me.

This is an excellent read!!!

A hilarious romp of a love story
I was delighted when I started to read this book and realised that it featured a minor character from 'His Grace Endures,' another Jensen book I enjoyed. Some other characters from that earlier book also appear here (eg Lady Leverham), and others are referred to.

This is a very funny book, somewhat in contrast to 'His Grace Endures' which, while it had its amusing moments, was more heartwrenching. Jensen in this book reveals a light touch and a gift for putting her characters in ridiculous situations; her narrative also has some very amusing touches to it, particularly some of Tarquin's introspection.

I think the second reviewer from Hong Kong missed the point of this book: it is *supposed* to be funny. Additionally, I'm puzzled as to how s/he can say that Tarquin wasn't attracted to Sibyl. It was obvious all along that he was more interested in her than he wanted to be, and there were plenty of subtle hints: the way he sought out her company in preference to the company of others at times; the way he started to notice the colour of her eyes; how well she looked in her blue dress; the scene when he sought refuge in her bedroom - there, his attraction to her was blindingly obvious, and I'm not sure how this reviewer missed it. And, of course, when she escorted him to his room when he was drunk - he may have been drunk, but he wasn't incapable! Not to mention the conversation through the locked door. After all that, I have no idea how anyone could say there was no attraction or chemistry.

This book is quite a contrast to my other favourites, books by Oliver, Balogh and Kelly for example, but as a comedy-romance it is excellent.

Extremely enjoyable book
Tarquin Rome is a stiff, somewhat pompous and boring Earl who has finally decided to take a wife. In typical fashion, he approaches the matter scientifically and methodically eliminating all possibilities until his choice is finally reduced to 'three graces'. Life is good, but suddenly, he discovers that his mother has decided to invite Sibyl Cameron to his bride-choosing house party. Tarquin has always had a problem with Sibyl. Basically, everything she does or says ends up embarrassing him.

But Sibyl is no longer a mischievous child in pigtails wreaking havoc in his life, she has grown into a beautiful woman whom he finds himself strangely attracted to. The story is wonderfully funny, the monkey alone will have you up in whoops, so make sure you read this book privately if you don't want people to eye you oddly!

Emma Jensen is a wonderful writer and she draws her characters with wonderful accuracy and detail. This is one book you'll want to keep since you'll probably enjoy reading it again and again.

Wonderful farce about a stuff shirt
If you love seeing stuffed shirt heroes get their comeuppance, this is the book for you. Tarquin thinks he can pick his bride just as carefully as he might select the menu for an event. Naturally, nothing goes as he plans.

Sibly is the unexpected guest -- the guest he really doesn't want -- and of course, the woman he really needs in his life. It doesn't take Tarquin long to figure out he would be crazy to marry any of his "perfect" brides, no matter how much planning went into their selection. It takes him a little longer to admit that the best choice has been in front of him all along.

The would-be brides add much of the humor -- but the funniest moments come from Tarquin's reactions to the chaos.

Though this is a farce, don't let that keep you away. There are also lots of passages of subtle humor. Now that I think about it, I might reread this shortly...
