Tender Medicine : Touching the Heart, Healing the Hurt

A Wonderful Enlightenment
I found "Tender Medicine" very easy reading and enlightening beyond words. This book helped me to understand that no one has to make a choice between mainstream medicine and that of one's religious beliefs (as I was raised to believe) but rather, should be a "healthy blend of mainsream medicine, complementary methods and spirituality". To be empowered of oneself is somehting that is easily overlook and forgotten when confronted with any type of illness or pain. Linda points out "that the wonders of main stream medicine do not heal but rather facilitate healing - it is the wisdom of the body, mind and spirit that heals". We tend to overlook this apsect and when this is pointed out, seems so logical and obvious. "Healing involves more than just the absence of illness but is a sense of peace and well-being of body, mind and spirit". Thank you, Linda, for this reading and for the "awakening" and life altering realization you have given me.

Eye Opening
Tender Medicine is an informative work that makes a one wary. Readers will walk into their physicians bathed in its aura -- re-armed! The emotions experience no steady keel in this work! But when all is tallied, uplifting is the one that wins. Tender Medicine is also a wonderful introduction to "touch." My favorite chapters: "Opening Day," "So Brief a Verse," Diane's Blue Sky. Thanks, Linda

You don't need to be in the medical profession ....
to enjoy & appreciate this book's message. The writing style is comfortable, intimate and witty. The author gets personal, sharing stories and experiences from her own life. It's a touching book and an real eye-opener on many different levels. I highly recommend it -- to people of all professions!

Not just a children's book
This is a must for any hockey fan with children. Not only is it a traditional ABC's book, it also teaches about the history of hockey and helps people of all ages get a better appreciation for the game.

Z for Zamboni receives and A+ from us!
My 4 year old "hockey-nut" son absolutely adores this book. It makes bedtime easier because he knows we get to read this book. As a first grade teacher, I applaude the way that the authors have also made this a "teaching" book. My son is now recognizing the alphabet as we read the book. I plan on buying several more and giving it as a gift! A++++++

Hockey Book is Full of Hockey
I was absolutely first-line, rookie-of-the-year impressed by "Z is for Zamboni." I don't think there could have been much more crease-crashing, glove-wearing, hockey-spelling hockey in this book. Everyone I've shown it to has been impressed both by the amount of hockey in the book, and also by the fact that all 26 some-odd letters have a rhyme specifically written for them, relating to the "old stick and puck." I would recommend this book to anyone interested in hockey, or the alphabet.

Great Book On Real Estate Paper!
If you want more money, GET THIS BOOK! "Cousin Jimmy" will open your eyes to the power of "The Time Value Of Money" like no one else. I've heard some people put Jimmy down for his easy folksy style of writing and speaking, but I find it to be an asset. He gets his points across to the reader in a way that wakes up your financial genius without confusing the reader with complicated formulas or boring, useless esoteric theories that would never apply in this universe. Jimmy has done everything he writes about, and he has been very successful at making money, and also in teaching others to do so.

You will learn how to use a financial calculator to really understand income streams, how to compute note payments under various combinations of term, interest rates, payment amounts, future value, balloons, and present value. You will understand how to purchase notes for a profit, how to restructure these notes to improve their present value, and how to use these instruments to create a cash flow, or to use them as currency to acquire properties. These properties can then be used to create your own notes to continue the process. And this is only the beginning. The return on your capital can be outrageous! Your stock market friends will envy and hate you. Your enemies will fear and respect you. Women will want you. Life will be good!

But even if you are not really interested in real estate notes and mortgages, the financial advice and principles that you will learn in this book will serve you well in Life. Much like "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", Jim Napier will impart sound guidance to the reader about money and finance that will be good for your financial health. This advice has made a tremendous difference in my investing and my business, and I know that you should not go through another day of your life without understanding the things that you will learn from this book about money and human behavior. You owe it to yourself and your family. Don't continue to make expensive mistakes with your money that will cost you your future financial security, simply because you already think you are sooo smart. Don't be too cheap to buy this book and read it. Don't be like most people who, after working for a lifetime, cannot retire without drastically reducing their lifestyle and depending upon the charity of their family for support.

What will it really cost you if you do not understand the contents of this book? How might your family benefit if you do?

A Great Introduction To Buying Paper
I REALLY liked this book. Jimmy Napier's "Invest In Debt" is one of the best books to add to your library if you are at all interested in buying paper. In fact, it probably should be the first book you buy if you are intrigued by the possibility of making money buying mortgages, notes, deeds of trusts, mobile home paper, etc. Among those who are knowledgeable in this field, this little book has become somewhat of an underground classic.

Jimmy writes in a very "folksy" down to earth style. Not only is this book easy to read, but it opens up your mind to new ways of looking at money and the miracle of compound interest. I went to 19 years of school and was never taught the financial concepts that this book teaches. Once you grasp the simple ideas that are conveyed in this book, you should be on the road to dramatically improving your financial position in life. After you read and digest what Jimmy says, you can then look for some of the more advanced material regarding making money with paper. The concepts taught by Jimmy are fundamental to many other books and courses that you can find. I used some of Jimmy's concepts to make money with a few older mobile homes. In a year I had turned $200 into about $9000. Not too bad. If I can do it, anyone can. I highly recommend this book.

The perfect first step for the beginning paper investor
Before attempting to purchase mortgage, car, cattle, or mobil home mortgages or liens an hour spent with the philosophy and wisdom of Jimmy Napier will pay off in spades... the best first step you can make I fully recommend Jimmys book

My Favorite Burroughs
Carson Napier has been my favorite Burroughs hero from about page 25 of my very old paperback copy of this book. He has all the heroic charms of John Carter while not quite being as over the top as the Warlord of Mars.

For plotting this book is stock Burroughs and his many imitators. If you loved John Carter try his not quite so wonderful brother. If you love the Green Star novels read the originals (much as the Calisto books are Carter's version of Barsoom so is Green Star Carter's version of Amtor). If you love Norman's Gor, Aker's Antares, or Carter's Calisto then do yourself a favor and read the lesser know inspiration for them.

the best book ever

Power Nutrition for Your Chronic Illness
Kristine Napier writes from experience in her newest book, Power Nutrition for Your Chronic Illness: A Guide to Shopping, Cooking, and Eating to Get the Nutrition Edge. Napier, who directs the Nutrition Enhancement Project for Preventive Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, has faced the challenge of systemic lupus. She developed and perfected the recipes in her book at a time when she was unable to leave her wheelchair.

Napier writes that "as a registered dietitian, I have been acutely aware of the importance of good nutrition as an asset in fighting my disease. I have been frustrated, though, at my inability at times to get healthy food into my body. I have long sought ways to simplify the task." She assures readers that "no matter how disabled you are, you, too, can get back into the kitchen and warm up your tummy, your family, and your home with delicious and fabulously nutritious home cooking again."

Napier starts with basic nutrition information, explaining in layman's terms how bodies turn food into energy. She also includes a chapter on the role of nutrition in disease prevention, because the risk of developing diseases like heart disease or osteoporosis is often greater in people who have chronic illnesses.

Chapters like "Shopping Made Easier," "Creating an Energy-Saving Kitchen," and "Entertaining: Yes It Is Possible!!" reflect Napier's philosophy that, with planning and a few kitchen adaptions, chronically ill people can prepare and enjoy healthy and nutritious meals. She also devotes a chapter to the interactions between medications and nutrition, with additional information for those who must use steroids.

The second section of Power Nutrition for Your Chronic Illness focuses on specific details for the following illnesses: AIDS/HV, Alzheimer's Disease, asthma, arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, Parkinson's Syndrome, psoriasis, and Sjogren's Syndrome. Napier provides a week of sample menus for each illness, integrated with the special challenges presented by that disease.

The final section of the book includes nearly 200 recipes. She has simplified the instructions so that many dishes can be prepared using only one pot or bowl. Although most of the recipes are low-calorie, Napier offers alternative ingredients for changing them to "a high-calorie food for people who simply cannot keep weight on" in recognition of those who have poor appetites or wasting illnesses. Each recipe includes serving suggestions and nutrition information.

Napier provides a list of manufacturers who make adaptive kitchen equipment and supplies. She also includes the addresses and phone numbers of chronic illness associations and organizations.

Most people challenged by chronic illness need a little help from their friends now and then. An easy way for you to provide some assistance is to present them with a copy of Power Nutrition for Your Chronic Illness. You'll help them achieve treasured independence and better health through good nutrition.

Oh, and you might want to buy another copy for yourself--just for the terrific recipes.

This is not just a cookbook! It is a guide to healthy eating and nutrients, and includes background and reasons for all the advice, with specialized information for people with chronic diseases. As a cookbook, it is a great resource for anyone trying to maintain a healthy kitchen.

Allied airborne forces in Normandy
This is one of the few books which also takes a closer look at the British Airborne landings in Normandy. Besides that the book gives you a complete view on the entire operation. The book starts with covering how the British and American Airborne Forces were raised. It then goes on with how they prepared for D-Day. Next in line are the operations on D-Day itself. The last part of the book is about the operation of the Airborne Forces in Normandy after D-Day. One of the best things about this book is that it is written by someone who was there himself. Mr. Crookenden was an officer in the 6th Airborne Division during the Normandy assault.

Wonderful view from a different perspective
I read this book for a university abnormal psychology class, and it provided a welcome contrast to the way we viewed human behaviour for most of the semester. Typically, psychology classes at my college have focused on individual factors causing psychological distress, but of course, family systems therapy views problems within the family system. Napier describes in depth his therapy with one family from beginning to end, and supplements his explanations of the family systems model and his and Whitaker's therapy techniques with examples from other families they have had in therapy. The book actually reads like a novel, and Napier's explanations make the entire process seem clear and reasonable. Even if you don't agree with the family system model, by the time you finish reading this book, you will at least have a much better understanding of it.

Very pertinent
First, let me say that I've never been a proponent of Therapy. This book, however, has made me re-think that stance.

I'm recently divorced. I was very surprised how this book explained, in detail, the process I went through. It provided an insight into family and relationship dynamics that I had not considered at all. While obstensively, it documents a therapy process with a single family, the side notes, theory, and author's comments provide a fuller explanation of the dynamice of relationships that makes this book a "must read" if you are interested in why you do things and how you work within your relationships.

I find myself wondering if I had read this before my divorce if there would have been a different outcome. I definitely would have looked at the entire process and relationship differently.

I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to get a better understanding of relationship dynamics, especially in a family setting.

Fascinating..amazingly interesting!
This book is one of my favorites of all time! My "Couples and Family Therapy" professor highly recommended it- it's a hallmark book in the family therapy field. If you are interested in family dynamics- the scapegoated child, the symptomatic child, adultery, depression, promiscuity- it's all in here.
