The Black Tradition in American Dance
Published in Hardcover by Rizzoli (November, 1989)
Authors: Richard A. Long and Joe Nash

Used price: $3.50

a rare and valuable resource...
This book "surveys all of the major personalities in Black dance from the 1920's to the present day" (1989 copyright). Photographs by Joe Nash.

Inside the cover, it sums it up, "Richard Long's elegantly illustrated (photos) book, dedicated to Pearl Primus and Katherine Dunham, show how the varied contributions of many talented and persevering men and women have put Black dance and dancers in the spotlight. ... the book traces all the strands, motifs, and fashions in Afro-American dance from the early minstrels, through the dance dramas of Isadata Dafora, to the thriving dance companies of today - Alvin Ailey, Harlem, Nanette Bearden, Dayton, Philadelphia [plus Josephine Baker, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, etc.- ballet, modern, and tap]..."

I have been looking for a book like this for a long time. It has many great photos of many people, some I have known, and some I had no idea of their contribution to Dance History. It's hard to find, but worth the wait!

computational modelling in biological fluid dynamics
Included flow modelling in arteries and bypass grafts, concepts of fluid dynamics and turbulence in the system, and heomorheology and haemodnamics exploring factors that play a role in coronary circulations. This is a collection of papers from leaders in each of these and related fields and will be of major importance to anyone working in the mathematical or medical professions as an up-to-date treatment on the study of biological systems and their mathematical descriptions.cluded flow modelling in arteries and bypass grafts, concepts of fluid dynamics and turbulence in the system, and heomorheology and haemodnamics exploring factors that play a role in coronary circulations. An Excellent Primer on Indian Policy
I happened upon this book by pure coincidence but have since come to rely upon it as an essential reference source on the history of federal and state policy towards dealing with tribes, tribal governments and tribal members. A really well written and interesting read, not too academic or technical, and does justice to the experience of Native Americans while maintaining a remarkable objectivity uncommon to most histories on this topic. Very useful to put contemporary Indian policy issues into a larger historical context, in my case, in representing state government interactions with Arizona tribes. A good read for interested non-government amateurs as well.

Hoover: Running the Country
This was the most introspective book I have read. If you think that you know alot about scandals you do not. This is one big conspiracy theory supported by compelling evidence. You ask yourself is this story true. Hoover was one of the most corrupt figures in American history. The deeds that transpired in his years of running the FBI are incomprehensible. It needs to be information to the general public. A must read.

Remembering the past.
Some song will float in your head for many minutes after it is done. When you hear the first several bars of music - at first you may not know the name of the song (or who sang it), but some where from deep inside of you the words come to your mouth and you sing along with the radio. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young is one of those groups that had songs you will find yourself doing just that.

Good collection of football follies
Like I said in the review title, a good collection of funny football foibles, although it seems a step down from the first Hall of Shame. Of course, book #1 had the more famous tales, i.e. "Wrong Way" Reigels; Georgia Tech 222, Cumberland 0; Cal-Stanford game-ending kickoff laterals. But still, Version 2 is nicely divided into fun chapters, like Most Outrageous School Bands, Craziest Players, Dumbest Coach Moves, and the like. Basically, if you enjoy NFL Football Follies and Sports Bloopers, you'll like this book, albeit without the Bob Saget-esque inane commentary.

Frazernash [i.e. Frazer Nash]
Published in Unknown Binding by Haynes ()
Author: David A. Thirlby

Excellent history of this classic marque
David Thirlby is registrar and historian of the Frazer Nash section of the Vintage Sports car club. He also owns & drives these unique chain drive sports cars. He is, therefore, THE authority on anything pre-war Frazer Nash. This book gives a comprehensive history of the chain drive cars from 1924-39 as well as some earlier info on how the company started, its roots in GN & backgrounds. It covers all the many models manufactured by FN, together with the racing history of the firm and anecdotes from contemporary owners. A complete list of all the cars manufactured by the works (as opposed to newer replica's constructed in the 1980/90's) make this an invaluable reference work for anyone interested in or researching the marque. A must for any prospective owner! Lots of drawings and contemporary photographs.

An Excellent Read
Strongly recommended for experts or enthusiasts on the subject. An in-depth approach to some of the most important figures in early American history. Found the first volume more useful than the second only because information on people in the first volume is more rare. The passage on Tecumseh was a treat for the history buff and the passage on Lee provided a new insight on his personal life. A must read for history buffs!

The Greatest Sports Stories Never Told

Stories are short, but detailed with facts
When I was a in junior high, I enjoyed reading any book of this nature that I could find. This book was a joy to read, but I want to add one caveat to the script. I was the subject in the third chapter, THE BUZZER BEATER, and the author took great poetic license to write the story. Many facts were true, but I have the videocassette today which was copied from an old 16 mm film which would definitely shed the whole truth.
