A fond look back at childhood in a loving family and church.Andy Nash remembers things about growing up that the rest of us just forget, 'til we read about it in someone else's book. No Mommie Dearest tale this; Andy gushes and bubbles with warmth toward his parents, his kid sister, his school and his church family. Frankly, I like his sister's sense of humor. She wanted to name the dog "Dairy"; for sure she'd be the only one on the block. Big brother Andy thought that was a dumb name and they named her "Casey". About his parents he says, "Dad and Mom spent very little time looking for sins that we hadn't yet realized--new truths for the purpose of making life difficult." Since we learn parenting skills by osmosis, his kids will be lucky. Andy's good at remembering how kids feel about things, from being dreadfully homesick at camp. to feeling left out when everyone else gets dessert before him at the box social, or lying in bed planning out escape routes should a fire start in the house. Included are essays he wrote before the age of 10, presumably so we can see that he's grown as a writer! He makes liberal use of humorous footnotes (which he raises to an art form) just as he did in the columns for the Adventist Review which make up much of the book. A highly entertaining quick read.

More Than Just Light, the Rainbow of HealthJohn Nash Ott in his breakthrough book warns of the dangers of the overuse and under-regulation of modern electromagnetic technology. He also discusses the negative effects of digital watches, certain man made fibers such as polyester and vinyl, ionizing-type smoke detectors, certain types of fluorescent lighting, video display terminals, electronic fetal monitoring equipment in hospitals, and other high technology items. The book has easy-to-do demonstrations showing the relationship of colored lighting and the positive and negative effects that it can create. He links light, color and health.

A wide variety of both basic and unique recipesBoth beginning and experienced cooks might benefit from a look at this one. The only thing that kept me from giving this one 5 stars was the fact that I hadn't yet tried the majority of recipes in this book and the fact that some of the more "gourmet" dishes weren't quick enough for everyday family cooking. However, there were plenty of quick recipes among the more unusual ones. Recipes like Roast Capon with olivess, Red Snapper with Pine-Nut coating and other dishes should add spice and variety to low-fat meals.

Intriguing tale of significant spat between USA and CanadaThis is an excellent book which I would recommend to everyone, even those with no previous interest in thesubject, since it is a near-perfect example of how to write contemporary history which really sings. Nash does a superb job of explaining how the paranoid and mercurial Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker and John Kennedy rapidly developed a mutual antipathy which indirectly prompted senior U.S. bureaucrats to do their best to overthrow the democratically-elected leader of a neighbouring state. Nash is particularly good on the character of Diefenbaker and has managed to talk to most of the supporting casts on both sides.

EARTH, WATER AND BEAUTY.Creating a water garden is yet another way to attune oneself with nature. This water garden concept is actually a pond. Author Helen Nash provides clear basic instructions on how to both build and maintain a pond with live fish, turtles or birds. You no longer have to envy the tranquility of Jane and Henry Fonda's "On Golden Pond" shimmering screen images. You may be inspired to begin building your own pond as soon as you finish reading this book. Ms. Nash has crafted a fine book for those who appreciate the beauty of nature. Leave the tension in the workplace. Come home to the peace and tranquility of a living pond in your very own backyard.

Detailed description of pathogenesisThe book is written in detail. If you are interested to be a microbiologist, you must buy this book. But the content is too much for other medical students, and is not useful clinically. Nevertheless, this book is interesting.

One I grew up with - and still love"Blum" "Blum is a word ..." I cannot hear the title of this book without having the poem "Blum" come to mind. This is not because it is the best poem in the anthology - rather it is because I have not found the poem elsewhere.
This is a delightful collection of humorous verse that is child-oriented without dumbing-down to some low-life expectation of children's appreciation for verse. It recognizes a child's sense of poetic rhythm without sliding into sing-song verses.
In short, this collection edited by Ogden Nash has all the qualities you expect in his own work... absolutely delightful ... with illustrations nearly as delightful as the poems.
An example I can quote 40 years later: Germans live in Germany / Romans live in Rome / Turks live in Turkey / But English live at home.

Interesting book on celebrity murdersNash gives us a chapter by chapter review of most every famous celebrity murder occuring from 1877 (Jim Fisk) to 1982 (Sunny Von Bulow). His details about the murders are very good. In some chapters he gives a strong psychological evaluation of the killer. In others he doesnt, so you have to figure out why the killer did what they did. I guess Nash did most of his writing from secondary sources, so one can see that some murders flat out puzzled people. Overall I really enjoyed this book.

quarles' efforts worth whileThe primary concern of Benjamin Quarles in his work The Negro in the American Revolution is to bring greater attention to the Negro as an overlooked role-player during the revolutionary period. Quarles postulates that the American Negroes actually personified the movement for independence through their own desire for freedom, and were moved to action not by loyalty to any particular flag or place, but rather by a freshly awakened hope for personal independence and individual "unalienable rights". It was logical, Quarles suggests, that the Negro would gravitate toward the side that made the best promise of freedom, even if this side was often the British, the very nation that the white colonists were rebelling against under cries of enslavement. Using extensive research and many specific instances to portray the sentiments of Negroes as a whole, Quarles is successfully able to prove this thesis.
