The ultimate Formula One stat book.
While not the sort of book that lends itself to being read cover-to-cover, it is exceedingly well organized, so looking up just about any Formula One statistic is a snap. It contains the full results of every World Championship race from 1950-1997 (and not just the points winners). Also included are profiles and results for every driver and constructor.

Perfect for young Thomas fans
Most Thomas fans know the story of the race between Thomas and Bertie. This book simplifies the story and has easy to read large print. My young Thomas fan pulls this book off the shelf first every day. If your child likes Thomas he'll want to learn to read this book.

OK, I'll admit...
At least part of what is so outstanding about this book is the pictures. Let's face it, it's not a literary masterpiece, but the information is well prepared, and cohesive. I found shots of cars and drivers in this book that I have never seen before. It's a worthy addition to a Racing Library.
Cheers-

best longshot selection book
This is one of the few handicapping books over the years that I can always read again and again. It offers real solid methods for selecting winners and also hidden longshots. I've used his methods for years at various tracks and Vegas and am continually amazed that they still work. If your lucky enough to obtain an out of print copy, I'm sure you'll find it facinating reading. It also offers some by gone era rememberances of racing. I would list this as must reading for any racing fan. Enjoy and good handicapping.

Harly Weaver and the Race Across America
Published in Paperback by Royal Fireworks Press (June, 2003)
Author: Ken Mays
Amazon base price: $9.99

Clever, funny, inspiring, and exciting.
This book has an appeal and charm rarely found in literature for juveniles. Harly Weaver, a 12-year-old boy with a big dream finds that dream coming true. But in a believable way. What works so well is the reality of the story as relates how young people think and feel and act. The kids are bright but real. No miniature adults throwing out one-liners. And the background of bicycle racing--and a real race at that--allows kids who aren't interested in team sports or even necessarily particularly athletic believe in and root for Harly as he competes only with his own abilities and feelings. I loved this book on a literary and emotional level and I think any young person as well as most adults would feel the same. It also seems to cry out to be a movie in the quality of the Disney mold. I just hope that when that happens they don't spoil it. I put a copy in my outer office for my young clients and it has been well thumbed. Please read it with your kids.

The Coolest Book On Earth-Besides Any Crichton Novel
This is a very cool book- not just beacuse it is about cars, but because it is about the fastest, most expensive cars there are(that are powered by an internal combustion engine). Post(the author) gives valuable insight on racing, since he has been involved in it, but also mentions even the smallest details about drag racing- the kinds of things that you say," Hey, did you know that nitromethane can give a car that normally has 200 hp 300hp?" With these details, and all of the great pictures showing the danger and excitement of drag racing. In Short- THIS IS THE BEST RACING BOOK YOU CAN BUY!

The history of horse racing
Published in Unknown Binding by Macmillan ()
Author: Roger Longrigg
Amazon base price: $64.50
Used price: $29.50

Blazing From The Start
I read this book years ago, finding it in my Middle School library. Even at the time, I found it utterly fascinating. Longrigg covers the history of horse racing around the world as far back as it's known to exist. He also covers different types of racing and competition on horseback as they are found in different cultures worldwide. From the beginning, this book hooks the reader's attention and keeps it moving all throughout. Along with the thorough history are beautiful illustrations such as photographs, black-and-white and color, of famous horses and people in racing, and also paintings and sketches depicting racing celebrities in pre-photographic times.
