Rig Your Dinghy Right: A Design and Installation Guide for Racing Sailors
Published in Paperback by International Marine/Ragged Mountain Press (December, 1994)
Authors: John Hodgart and Mark Chisnell
Amazon base price: $18.95
Average review score:

A great guide to all types of dinghy rigging
The book is fantastic. It is the first book I have found that shows all types of rigging techniques as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each. There are many pictures of the systems on different boats with a couple of schematic diagrams. I would say the book is targeted at racers primarily, be it at club or national level. Its a very useful book if you are refitting a boat, as I did.

Roman Circuses: Arenas for Chariot Racing
Published in Hardcover by University of California Press (January, 1986)
Author: John H. Humphrey
Amazon base price: $80.00
Used price: $264.71

The complete Roman circus review
This book contains more information than I ever knew could exist on the subject. Mr. Humphries has neatly organized a ton of facts about all known circuses, while focusing on the most popular, the Circus Maximus. His own excavating experience shows with his strong ability to interpret small pieces of ancient evidence that mere authors wouldn't be able to. I recommend this book as essential reading for anyone interested in the construction and evolution of these masterworks of ancient engineering. (5/5 stars)

Rough Rider
Anyone with kids? This book will hold their attention for hours on end. My 3 year old son will sit for 2 hours per day enjoying the pictures in this book. I have read and re read this book to him time after time. He associates himself and his brothers with every picture in this book. It is simply amazing how it captures the true essence of true motorcross. I highly recommend this book for any child / parent. It will go a REAL LONG WAY. ENJOY

Running by Feeling, A Year on the Racing Comeback Trail
Published in Hardcover by Competitive Running Press, Inc. (01 April, 1999)
Author: Brian L. Clarke
Amazon base price: $24.95
Used price: $193.25
Average review score:

Clarke gives the formula for perfect balance in running
A few decades ago, most runners undertrained. It wasn't until the 1960s that megamileage became common among distance runners. Now, the tendency is to overtrain, which leads to both physical and mental breakdown. Clarke's book is about achieving optimum balance between energy and effort. It's about coordinating the effort with the energy that allows for adaptation, i.e., better performances in the sport. Clarke offers a matrix in which workout effort is classified in varying degrees on one side and in which energy is classified across the bottom. There are 30 possible combinations of this effort-energy matrix. Clarke says that only five are optimum adaptive workouts.

The runner who want to improve should gain a lot from reading Clarke's excellent work.

Sail it flat; the sunfish racing primer
Published in Unknown Binding by Quadrangle Books ()
Author: Larry Lewis
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Old, But A Classic
If you have an interest in racing the Sunfish sailboat, this old book is fun and worth the read. Many things have changed about the Sunfish since this book was written, but the one important lesson remains the same--sail it flat! Once I learned this lesson (many years ago, of course), racing one design boats became fun. I even brought home a trophy or two after reading it. If you can find a copy, buy it. This book is short and packed with great information. Though some of the info is now bound to be historical, I am certain many of the lessons still apply.

loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a great book. I collect all of loraine snelling's books.I loved the part when Trish won her first race since her dad died.I think everyone should read this book.I think that if everyone did read this book the universe would be a better place. All of my friends love this book and we all agree that there should be another book to add to the series, about maybe Trish and Red getting married. It would be so cool if they had their wedding in the barn with all of the horses. Take me to your leader!
