a great book fot the classic racecars fan
it is a verry special book with the sport and racecar manufactures who started in a small garage and developed to a famous marque. There are also marques who never realy mate it in the race scene for exampel: beart-rodger, buckler, halseylec and nomad. from every marque are all the cars presented in the book and that's why it is great book for the people who like the classic racecars.

Excellent guide to training racing sled dogs
Jim Welch has written a clear and concise book on training sled dogs to race. There are specific examples to clarify most techniques and ample support for the effectiveness of each method. He has successfully condensed the knowledge of many of the world's top mushers into a relatively short book. Consider it essential reading for anyone who wants to reach the maximum potential of their dogs whether they be competitors at the national or local level.

all you need to know about nitrous..
This is a excellent book. I am planning to build a serious nitrous motor and I got so much new info from this book. Many general guidelines to start from. lots of examples, pictures and charts. There are lots of name brand nitrous products. i.e. timers, jettings, wiring etc. awesome tuning section, tons of air/fuel ratio charts. I highly recomend this book. very informative.

a great mystery!!
I had been looking for a good mystery and I found it. This book was very well written and it centers around horse racing much better than Dick Francis' books do. I love racing and mysteries. Shoemaker knows exactly what he's taking about and makes you feel like you're really there. Overall I loved it.

Steeplechasing: A Celebration of 250 Years 1752-2002
Published in Hardcover by Little Brown Uk (October, 2001)
Author: Anne Holland
Amazon base price: $35.00
Average review score:

An appreciation of steeplechasing
Steeplechasing is the alternative to flat racing in Ireland (where it was invented) and Britain, but has not generally flourished elsewhere. France, Australia, New Zealand and America are among other countries where it takes place, although the format is sometimes different. Hence, this book is mostly about British racing.

It is divided into three main sections - for the races, the people and the horses. The section on the races covers the Grand National at Aintree, the very first steeplechase in Ireland and chapters on hurdling, point to point races, military races and timber races. Timber races are the American equivalent, so that chapter discusses the Maryland Hunt Cup and attempts to introduce such races into England with a race called the Marlborough Cup. Since the book was published, this race has never been run again.

The section on people covers the Queen Mother, Vincent O'Brien (best remembered for his flat racing triumphs but an incredible trainer of steeplechasers in the fifties), Martin Pipe and a few other important trainers. The section on horses covers Arkle, Golden Miller, Red Rum, Dawn Run and Desert Orchid among others.

The book is lavishly illustrated but it is certainly not comprehensive - there is no mention anywhere of Tingle Creek, one of the most popular steeplechasers ever. There is no statistics section either, though there are plenty of books full of who won what race in what year.

The book's title (A celebration) indicates its contents, and as a celebration of steeplechasing, it works well, but anybody wanting to study its history in depth should look elsewhere.

Still Hooked on Harness Racing
Published in Paperback by Oak Tree Publications (December, 1978)
Author: Donald P. Evans
Amazon base price: $1.49
Average review score:

my first look at horse ownership
when i first bought a harness horse this was the book that a friend told me i had to read. this is one of the most entertaining books i have ever read. it means more to a person who has raced horses as an owner than someone who has never been involved but anyone would enjoy it. it is the story of don eveans and how he became a horse racing nut,an owner, and a hall of fame harness writer.it is full of hilarious stories of the joys and heartbreaks of the sport that i also grew to love as an owner.

Stirling Moss: My Cars, My Career
Published in Hardcover by Haynes Publishing (February, 1988)
Authors: Stirling Moss and Doug Nye
Amazon base price: $35.00
Average review score:

Moss the master of 1950's int'l motor racing
Stirling Moss was the Aryton Senna of the 1950s international motor racing scene in spite of the fact that he never won the F1 world championship or LeMans. He didn't always try to drive the best cars but everyone knew he was head and sholders above all the other drivers. He has collaborated with professional writer Doug Nye in a review of his career and the cars that took him to the top ranks. It is amazing that he must have kept notes or a diary along the way since the descriptions and details of all the stories are so complete! If you are into historic race cars and drivers, this is for you.

Summer's Chance
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt (May, 1988)
Authors: Penelope S. Easton and Patricia H. Easton
Amazon base price: $13.95
Average review score:

Summer's Chance
An invitation to spend the summer on Grandma Bates's horse farm leaves Elizabeth Hater with mixed feelings. In the past eleven years, Elizabeth has been near a horse only a handful of times, and she hasn't seen her grandmother even once. She'd rather spend the summer in New York studying water color panting. Yet, this might be just the opportunity she'd hoped for to learn about her mother, an accomplished artist and horsewoman, who died when Elizabeth was very young. But Grandma Bates seems more interested in the horses she raises for harness racing than in her granddaughter, and she won't talk about her daughter. Elizabeth feels more and more like an outsider until Carrie, her mother's childhood friend, and Maggie Last Chance, a spirited filly, draw her into her mother's world and she slowly begins to learn not only about her mother, but about her grandmother-and herself.
