Sunday Driver
Published in Hardcover by Farrar Straus & Giroux (November, 1972)
Author: Brock W. Yates
Amazon base price: $7.95
Used price: $8.00
Average review score:

The most read book of all in my bookshelf.
As a club racer this book has inspired me the most. The insight (as far as I know) of racing, the people and the stress of a racing driver alone in the car is exact. This book covers one racers career from racing school to a couple of pro Trans-Am races. And the chapter of the first race as a mechanic for a new Trans-Am team is a must to read for every aspiring race car owner (/driver). The chapter on the 'fair' test of the 70's musclecars is a good insight into how to bend rules. Reprint it, my copy is falling apart.

Good quality
This item is a combination toy and book. The book, a mere 11 pages, tells the story of a race. The toys are four fomula-1 racecars of about Hotwheels size, and a reusable, sheet plastic (approximately 2' x 3') racetrack. My son bought this item with money from his allowance, and he is very happy to have it. The cars are of a good quality (they roll better than some Hotwheels he has), and this racetrack seems like it will last. Overall we both like this item, and recommend it to you.

Supertuning Your Firebird Trans-Am
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/TAB Electronics (September, 1981)
Author: Joe. Oldham

Wish it was still with us...
I first got this book from the local library about 10 years ago. I made the mistake of returning it to renew it later - I say mistake, because the book was so popular that all the copies were susequently stolen! I searched for this fantastic book for years, and then by sheer luck I ran across Joe Oldham who graciously gave me a copy. If you are looking for one of the best sources for pre 1981 Firebird/Trans-Am information, this is it. There is a very detailed history of the car and it's builders (the people, not just GM!). As well there is a very detailed and technical wealth of information on chassis tuning, Pontiac specific engine work (heads to cranks), production numbers, casting numbers... the list goes on.

If Mr. Oldham ever puts this book back in print, I'm sure there would be a flood of orders for it as the early F-bodies become more and more popular and collectible as time goes on.

Firebirds forever! Thanks Joe.

Techniques of Motor Cycle Road Racing
Published in Paperback by Motorbooks International (August, 1988)
Author: Kenny Roberts
Amazon base price: $19.98
Average review score:

Best Motorcycle Roadracing book out.
This book has been out of print for years and it is hands down the best book out there on roadracing a motorcycle. Code's books are obtuse and difficult to read and this is simple and direct from one of the most talented roadracers ever. It covers set-up, training, bike prep, testing and more. All more from the perspective of what Roberts did when he raced rather than a step by step process of "how to". The book is ghost written in the first person and is a little cocky (which you'd expect) and dated (since it was written in the 80's) but none of this really detracts as it's a fantastic insight into one of the greatest racers of our time. If you race motorcycles you must have this in your library.

Wonderful tapestry of the history of Saratoga
A beautiful history of the oldest sports venue in the United States. Reading it made me long to have experienced the spa in years gone by. If you are into the history of horse racing, this book is a must read.

Good racing book.
I found "Think to Win" to be a great help in identifying and understanding areas of my racing that I didn't even know existed! I am positive that I am a better driver than I was before I read it. In fact, I read it every year before the season starts!

Thoroughbred Cycles
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (April, 1990)
Author: Mark Cramer
Amazon base price: $23.00
Used price: $34.99
Collectible price: $80.47
Average review score:

The best book on the "ART" of handicapping written to date.
Mark Cramer has written the most thought provoking tome I've read. There are many excellent books on the "SCIENCE" of handicapping. But this book brings home the the reality that races are won by flesh and blood animals prepared by mortals (trainers) who are fraught with their own strengths and weaknessses.Anyone who extrapolates figures from services or computer programs water down the past performance to a number. Predicting the future(handicapping the "ART"), is far more involved in "cycles". This book is a must read for all serious handicappers
