This is a great book!
This book was great!I was disappointed when Jilly broke her leg and couldn't ride Wonder in the Breeder's Cup Classic, but I was very happy when Ashleigh was going to ride her.At first I thought her parents would say no,but after Charlie talked to them,I knew they would have to say yes. I was scared that Ashleigh wouldn't know how to handle the situation that she and Wonder were in,but she did and went on to win the race.I wqas very happy when Mr.Townsend gave her part interest in Wonder at the end of the book.

The works minis : an illlustrated history
Exceptional documentary of historical racing and rally cars. Probably the definitive source for vintage racing. Photos and text accurately document this period of competition. This is one of the few sources for this type of info for the real vintage enthusiast.

This is a great book. Ms. Martha's information stays consistant even today. This book is old & out of print, but I was able to get a copy & am glad I did! If you can't find this book, try her new Running to Win book and it will have a lot of the same information.

An interesting book with a wide scope
This fascinating and lavishly illustrated book cannot possibly cover any aspect of horse racing in detail, but it certainly lives up to its grandiose title, although perhaps the word thoroughbred should have been included in the title. Flat racing, steeplechasing and hurdling are all covered, but harness racing and quarter horses are omitted.

The first chapter covers the early history of the sport, particularly in Britain, the USA and Australia. The second chapter (Racing around the world) covers many countries where horse racing takes place, from the super-rich to the desperately poor. The next few chapters cover major races, important horses, jockeys, owners and trainers, gambling, controversies and scandals. The final chapter is for general trivia - this is followed by a chronology of events, giving a potted history of the sport.

Fans will always argue that some names that were omitted are more important than some that have been included (and I am no exception), but that's the nature of all books which attempt to select the best ever of anything. In any case, all horses and jockeys that have achieved fame with the general public who don't normally follow the sport are here. Among the horses are Arkle, Cigar, Dr Fager, John Henry, Man O' War, Mill Reef, Nijinsky, Red Rum, Sea Bird, Seabiscuit and Secretariat. As you will see, it's a truly international list, including steeplechasers as well as flat racers. The list of jockeys covered is also impressive.

As a general overview of racing worldwide, this book serves its purpose (except for the omission of harness and quarter horses) - even the most knowledgeable fans will find stuff here that's new to them - but if you want to know a lot about particular aspects of the sport, you must look elsewhere. This is a great beginning - or addition - to any library of horse racing books.

A Most read for all Stock Car Racing fans.
This is an amazing book that covers the entirety of the sport from the local short track to daytona. It is a unique historical anecdotal look at the sport during the early 1970's and much legend and lore from that period is covered. This is quite simply one of the best books on the sport that i have had the opportunity to read. If you are a fan or a student of NASCAR Stock Car racing then you must read this book.

Lookout Matt, Dale, and Jeff !
At age 25, Kurt Busch is an excellent contender in the 2003 WC season. Straight from the Craftsman Trucks, his talents on the track compare to Gordon, Earnhardt, and Petty.
Young Gun starts with Kurt's days of dirt tracks in Nevada up through present day. Understand that a lot can be written even though it is only his 3rd season in WC. The pictures are great, except I was hoping for the historic photo finish at Darlington. The book makes you appreciate all of his hard work. And he's a Cub's fan ! Even both of Jimmy Spencer's fans will enjoy this masterpiece.

Yukon Quest: The 1,000-Mile Dog Sled Race Through the Yukon and Alaska

This is where mans best friend really shows himself.
The Yukon Quest is a 1000 mile dog sled race through the Yukon and Alaska that pits man and is best friend against the worst Mother Nature has to offer. In this book John Firth takes the reader through each stage of the 1998 Yukon Quest. Also filled within the pages are anecdotes from all the races between 1984 to 1997. The stories are personal, they are real, they will make you laugh, they will make you cry, but most of all they will make you see the bond that the mushers have with their dogs. There is a relationship between the musher and his/her dog team that goes beyond that of a pet. There is trust, love, and the enjoyment of being together. The interactions between the mushers can be comical at times but it can also turn serious when necessary. Frith has many stories from the mushers that will show you both sides. The best thing about all the mushers is that no matter what, if someone needs help everyone will stop to help and forget about the race until everybody is safe. The must rely on each other, they are the only people around for hundereds of miles. It is not easy to cross 1000 miles of frozen land and water. They must help each other if they can. The book also gives a history of the race such as route changes and political problems encountered. The 1998 official race rules are included as are the results and awards from 1984 to 1998.

BEST THOROUGHBRED BOOK EVER!!!
"Racing Parker" was definately the best tb "christina" book!! I like the fact that they can concentrate on all the problem that real riders have like when Christina's instructor didn't want her to ride training level and she did it anyway and that's what most real teenagers would've done!!!It was exciting to hear that Christina also have normal teenage problem that doen't have anything to do with horses like liking to boys and the jealousy between them!! The book was absalutely fabulous and if you don't have it yet just remember, you won't be able to live without Christina's exciting adventures for long!!

Great Book!
I really loved this book! I like the entire Thoroughbred series, but I have especially enjoyed te books about Christina, since I can relate to her riding disipline better than I can to racing (I'm only fourteen, but am also an eventer and just moved up to training level in June with my Connemara gelding, Irish Lad). I like Parker because he seems more mature than the rest of the characters, and because he's managed to become a nice person despite the wealth and snobbish attitude of his parents. Joanna Campbell is a great author, and although the past several books have been pretty good (the authors have done a great job!), I (and many other readers) would love it if Ms. Campbell came back to writing the series. P.S. I also reccomend Thoroughbred books 24 through 33 (the ones on eventing), and the rest of the series.

Racing Parker
This book was a really great book! I like eventing and all but im glad when the series goes back to RACING in the next book. Its nice to have a change of pace though so it works that they threw in jumping and eventing. it got kinda repetitive ther from when glory first came in! All in all this was a good book and i reccomend it to any one collecting the series or just a crazy horse lover looking for a good book to read. And just to let everyone know JOANNA ISNT COMING BACK...if you dont belive me go to www.whitebrookfarm.com and see for yourself!
