Everything you wanted to think of yesterday!
This book has many, many ideas for activities you can use with children to fill in space in the day- or for transitions from one focus to another- games, musical activities, poems and fingerplays to capture the attention of restless, wiggly children. A great resource for anyone responsible for teaching or entertaining small or large groups of young children in a classroom or at a birthday party!

Great ideas for anytime
This book is a great resource for activities to do with children at any time of the day - not just after school. There is a different activity on each page and each comes with a list of supplies. Some activities require only participation. This book has been a great help to me when I just have this mental block, and I can't think of a great activity when we need one. You should flip through the book and identify the supplies that you could begin collecting - like empty toilet paper rolls, etc. It is kind of hard to come up with l0 empty rolls to play 'bowling' with, if you haven't planned ahead! On the days when I have a babysitter coming, I leave the activity page marked, and the supplies out on the kitchen table, and it gives the babysitter something instant to keep them busy when they get home. The ages are listed from 5-l0, but I don't think participants are limited to this group. My teenager loves playing some of these games. Some are also good for long trips - the word association, and 'scavenger hunt' ideas are great! I will give this to my teenager when she babysits other children, to give her a simple way to keep the children occupied with games that may be different than their own toys. She can even make a 'travel kit' to take with her (with those empty toilet paper rolls!)so she can do some of the activities without having to search through the house. I recommend this book to anyone from church nursery workers, teachers, activity directors, parents, babysitters, big sisters and anyone else who may be responsible for entertaining children in a creative and enjoyable way.

Excellent Resource
I am an elementary school counselor who is always looking for creative ideas to use with my students. I ordered "The Cat at the Door" and loved it, so I was thrilled to discover this book of "Affirmation Activities." There are reproducibles which would be easy to use for counselors like me, classroom teachers, camp counselors, therapists...anyone who works with children ages 5 to 12 or so.

I almost knew him
How do I describe the inital collection of the best of Baxter? I first obtained mine direct from Bax himself and I have a nice note in his own hand. Regardless, if you like Bax Seat over the years, this is one to get, keep, and re-read occaisionally. His stories about the 'houn Dog' and his Mooney stories, learning to fly IFR, stearmans, night fright, and all the other classics will keep you warm and aloft in the coldest of 0/0 weather. We'll miss you Bax.

Fun and practical resource for teachers and kids of all ages
What a treat! This compilation has some really delightful and different ideas for the holidays. As a Kindergarten teacher, I find this book to be an excellent resource for my classroom. I especially enjoyed the short story _The Magic Leaves_ by the author Lola De Julio De Maci. All in all, a great purchase for teachers, parents, or anyone who enjoys children's literature.

Best Remaining Seats: The Story of the Golden Age of the Movie Palace

THE original PRIME work on Movie Palace Architecture/History
Theatres have taken many forms through the ages, but the American innovation of the "Movie Palace" theatre to originally showcase silent films, is perhaps the most delightful meeting of the arts under one roof. Mr. Hall spent years searching the nation for photos and history of these architectural wonders and his respect for and love of this architype is readily evident! His jocular style can seem irreverant, but he strives thereby to keep his delight from turning to awe. It is a shame his life ended Dec. 16, 1970 for the New York Times and the world lost a master wordsmith and researcher/writer. This lavishly illustrated volume is the appropriate 'epitaph' for this art form and its success is revealed in the three subsequent printings in soft cover (minus the color plates in this first edition) and in the fact that it indirectly led to the forming of two societies of afficianados: THE THEATRE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA,(publishers of MARQUEE magazine) and THE AMERICAN THEATRE ORGAN SOCIETY,(publishers of THEATRE ORGAN magazine) both in Elmhurst, Ill. Mr. Hall would have been proud of the preservation movement for theatres which arose partially as a result of his engaging 266-page book. Its potential social impact was forseen by "AMERICAN HERITAGE" magazine in October 1961 when they excerpted it complete with the color plates as "The Best REE-MAINING Seats". Other books have followed, but they owe a tip of the hat to him who took the lead so well. If this is the story of NYC's ROXY, the "Cathedral of the Motion Picture" and of entrepreneur Roxy Rothafel, he is the foreshadow of Ben M. Hall and a glimmering showcase of the dazzling 'architecture of fantasy' to come. Tour the nation in a new way and Enjoy!
