To Gaze at Morrissey
It's lovely to look at pictures of Morrissey online, but the experience is enhanced ten-fold when holding the photographs in your hands. Much credit to Sterling for capturing Morrissey's essence.

Morrissey Shot rules!!!!!
This book is really great if you are somebody who is really into Morrissey--or even if you have just a slight interest. You get to see the hard work of touring the world which is normally kept behind the hard-to-reach gates of backstage.A great book for anyone with ANY interest in the world of Moz.

Flawless
After gazing at countless photographs of Morrissey, I still get that magical mysterious feeling whenever I see pictures of him. This book is definitely a must have. The world still won't listen.

Can't put down book!
Even though this book is out of print, you should own a copy, it is so emotional and heartwarming, after I read this book about Edie and her husband and the experiences she went through with him, I had to write her a email and tell her about how well I enjoyed this book, she wrote me back with a response and said she was working on a new book, this was a year or so ago and I am still waiting. I can't wait. I hope her new book is as great as this one.

Edie made me want to hold my husband extra close, extra long
I had no idea what this story would be about when I picked it up, but once I started reading I knew I wasn't going to be able to put it down. I read it in a day, and couldn't believe how profound this story was. By the time I was finished, I wanted to hold my husband and not let him go. In a world where we all tend to focus on big homes, big cars, big jobs, big money, etc., the simple thread that wove through this wonderful story was the simple love that Edie found with Paul. Paul may have been a simple man, but I wonder how many of us in our lifetimes ever feel the true love and tenderness that they shared. This is a story that I will always remember. I truly hope I precede Edie to heaven so I can witness their reunion.

A beautiful story and written with love and simplicity.
I have never before felt the urge to write to an author to tell her how much I enjoyed her beautifully written book. I was touched very much by this story and highly recommend it.

I wanna keep him for myself
Is it wrong that I was jealous of the heroine because I wanted to keep the hero?

Dr. Connor was arrestingly sexy and caring; it's no wonder that Sarah fell for him. Sarah had to work against her fear and instincts, but she knew that Connor was the best thing for her. The plot device used to build a good part of this story is overdone in recent romance literature, but Ms. Sterling made it intriguing all over again.

I was struck by the incredible intimacy of the first love scene. It was so well written that I was reminded once again of why sex and sharing is a vulnerable experience and why it must be treated with such care by both parties. It's not often a book can pull off that message without preaching or falling into melodrama. I'll definitely buy Ms. Sterling's next book right off the shelf.

Definitely a keeper!
If you like your books hot, well-written, and just plain fun then this book will be sure to please. Donna Sterling keeps things moving along so smoothly-and the characters are so interesting that the reader really cares what happens to them! As always, Ms. Sterling leaves the reader with a smile on her face.

Ahhh is Ohhh so hot, sexy and a great story .
I love Sarah and Connor's story, I guarantee that it's hard to put down. Dr. Connor would be welcome as my doctor any day! SHHH. but don't tell my husband! If you are looking for a sexy and enjoyable few hours of reading look no further.

Wake of the Wahoo: The Heroic Story of America's Most Daring Wwii Submarine, Uss Wahoo
Published in Paperback by R.A. Cline Publishing (October, 1999)
Author: Forest J. Sterling
Amazon base price: $19.95
Used price: $17.95

'Wahoo a Winner'
Wake of the Wahoo by Forest Sterling is a great read! Reading this engrossing book is actually more like sitting down with the author, and listening to him as he relates the five patrols he experienced on the Wahoo. We should be thankful that he received his orders for transfer before the 7th and fatal final patrol.

Forest Sterling was an enlisted sailor- the 'yeoman' aboard the Wahoo. His descriptions of long, sometimes very boring days on patrol, broken only by the tense, gut-wrenching episodes of discovering the target, tracking, stalking, and finally attacking, and evading, draws the reader into the clamy, sweaty, smelly, claustrophobic innards of a fleet submarine. No details are left to the imagination; Sterling recounts eating a particular sandwich at a moment in time; he describes his 'yeoman's' shack in minute detail. The yarns he spins on the personalities of his shipmates (including officers), is worth the read alone. His colorful insights of 'Mush' Morton, Dick O'Kane (also author of another Wahoo book, and Skipper of the Tang - the sub that sank the most tonnage in WWII), among others, is just plain fun to read about.

Footnote; Forrest Sterling also served on another sub after Wahoo, along with George Grider, who ALSO wrote a very good book on WWII subs; 'WAR FISH'. Sterling 'mentions' Grider in his book, but I don't recall if Grider ever re-called Sterling.

Anyway; Buy It, Read It, and Enjoy It!

Compelling true to life narative of war at sea...
This is a deckplate view of submariners at the height of war in the Pacific during WWII. As a Navy Sailor, I found myself drawn into the book simply because of its no frills language and realistic portrayal of heroes that don't know they are heroes, in action.

I reccommend this for anyone looking for an inside view of Navy life in general and submarine Sailors in particular.

Bravo Zulu Chief Sterling for a great story!

The art of Prolog : advanced programming techniques
Published in Unknown Binding by MIT Press ()
Author: Leon Sterling

Average review score:

A classic
This book is a must for anyone starting to program in Prolog or interested in logic programming.

A downsize of the book (if any) can be that it could have detailed more in the respect of Prolog's applications. The pleasant style of the authors would have made a wonderful introduction into these fields.

A real pleasure to read.

Gentle and comprehensive
If you have previous programming experience, Prolog will be quite a challenge. Logic programming is very different from functional or imperative, and will definitely be a major culture shock.

The first part of the book introduces the concepts of logic programming at the right pace, giving you time to assimilate everything. The second part contains several applications of Prolog.

This is a great first book on Prolog and will certainly help you 'getting it'.

Sumptuous!
I bought this book for the cover (it's good enough to keep on a coffee table), and stayed for the code. My favorite part of the book is Part II, where the Prolog language is described. I learned Prolog from the Clocksin and Mellish book, but never really "got it" until I went through The Art of Prolog.

Very highly recommended
Seven years ago she disappeared without a trace. For every moment of those years, Trev Montgomery has desperately missed Diana. Now the courts have declared her legally dead. Throwing his gold ring into the waves of the ocean, Trev vows to return to the world of the living. Then he sees a woman who claims to be a "working girl" but looks and laughs strikingly like Diana. He doesn't want to believe that Jen is a prostitute; that she could charge her for the passionate moments they share. Further, he must have more of her. He can't walk away.

Jennifer Hannah didn't want to leave he after husband of four months. Surely one last night together wouldn't matter after seven years. She'll just have to leave and start over again, just like she's done so many times before. Nevertheless, Jennifer knows she inflicted the pain she sees in Trev's eyes, and determines that she will provide him with a moment's healing, even if she must lie about being a prostitute to be able to provide that relief.

In a surreal moment, a journey out of reality, two people who once loved with incredible passion meet and love again. But the moment must pass. If Jennifer is recognized, she could be killed, as could any of her loved ones. But when Trev demands two days and three nights with Jennifer, and promises to let her walk away if she won't accept his help, Jennifer finds herself unable to resist.

So begins a quick paced tale of romance and danger that will hold the reader enthralled to the last moment. With the special grace, Donna Sterling creates a memorable romance that readers will find to be a real keeper. The vivid characterization and convincing plot line will remain with the reader long after the last page is turned. Very highly recommended!

A beautigul and poignant romance
It has been seven years since Trev Montgomery's heart broke. Now the court ruled his missing wife Diana dead and he knows he must move on with his life. Changing coasts is a start and tossing his wedding band into the Atlantic hopefully provides closure, but Trev doubts it.

In Georgia, Trev believes he sees Diana in a hotel welcoming his business. She runs, but he stops her. However, she insists her name is Jennifer Hannah. In actuality, she recognizes the man she once loved and married in a former life in California before the U.S. Marshals changed who she is forever. Jennifer informs Trev that she is a call girl, but one kiss tells him that she is his Diana.

INTIMATE STRANGER is an enjoyable romantic suspense novel that showcases two lead charcaters struggling with their pasts. The story line requires acceptance of a pivotal coincidence, but it is so well written readers will not care. If the "Protection" program actually works the way it split this couple, perhaps it needs reinvention, but in the capable hands of Donna Sterling, it makes for a fabulous tale that the audience will enjoy.

Well Titled
Tantalizing read with lots of intrigue and steamy sex. The opening draws you into Jack Lazar's story and continues on with a whirlwind of danger and seduction.

Outstanding read!
A wonderfully exciting book with numerous twists and turns that leaves the reader guessing and wanting more. Great character chemistry with some HOT scenes. Would recommend the book to anyone that is looking for a quick, entertaining, and SEXY read. Enjoy!

Could Not Put it Down
I don't read novels as a general rule. Most just can't hold my attention. I get bored with the same old plots and the same old characters with different names. Kevin Sterling's Danger's Seduction was a refreshingly new angle, a quick, easy read that left me watching the stand for his next book! I used to read to fall asleep - not with this book! I had to go to bed early because I couldn't put it down. A great escape for someone who normally doesn't care for novels.

David Innes returns to Pellucidar for Dian the Beautiful
"Pellucidar" is the second volume in the Pellucidar series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and find our hero David Innes and his scientist friend Abner Perry returning to the inner world. At the end of "At the Earth's Core" the duo had returned to the surface only to discover that Hooja the Sly One has substituted a Mahar, one of the rhamphorhynchus-like sentient reptiles that tyrannized Pellucidar, for Dian the Beautiful, the woman Innes loves. So the plan is to get back down there, rescue Dian, and if time allows end the exploitation of the primitive humans by the evil Mahars. The good news is that Innes returns to the inner world, but the bad news is that he ends up in a different part of Pellucidar where he has no friends and new enemies. This 1923 novel is stanrd ERB adventure, where the hero is separated by circumstances and bad guys from the woman he lives (in fact, it is very reminiscent of "The Gods of Mars," the second John Carter novel). But this is still before ERB was in his potboiler stage where the main game was turning out as many Tarzan novels as possible. What makes Pellucidar a bit different from the rest of the Burroughs fantasy adventures is the unique geography of the inner world and the prominence of smart guy scientist Abner as a supporting character (i.e., the brains of the outfit). If at all possible you want to pick up a copy of "Pellucidar" that has the original illustrations by Illustrated by J. Allen St. John, who remains by favorite ERB artist. The Pellucidar series consists of six stories, including a Tarzan crossover, and continues in "Tanar of Pellucidar," but these first two novels stand alone as

A Feast for the Imagination
In this, his second novel set in the savage world of Pellucidar, Edgar Rice Burroughs returns his hero David Innes to the earth's core. In relatively formulaic ERB style, David's stone-age empress Dian the Beautiful has been stolen from him by Hooja the Sly One, and he sets off against daunting odds across a primitive world to rescue her. He is aided by advanced technology (such as firearms) brought with him from the surface, and the innovations of his dear friend, the scientist Abner Perry.

This is relatively light weight science fiction, but as always Burroughs fast moving plot and adventurous style keep the pages turning like lightning. My father once reccomended this to me when I was in grade school and I simply fell in love with ERB, and I have recently been able to share the pleasure by passing on my small collection of Burroughs novels to my younger brother (now aged 12). . . after rereading them of course. He's become hooked as well, and now will not stop pestering me to find him a copy of book 3.

LlamaScout Like Book
Pellucidar continues the tale of David, the lovable protagonist from At The Earth's Core. It tells the story of his return trip to the fabled subterrainian stone-age land known as Pellucidar. Here he must locate old friends, reunite with his lost loved one, and face his all-but-forgotton foes.

Burroughs' writing is simply fabulous, and even makes the characters seem all the more realistic, though many of them are not even human, but sentient creatures who can exist only in the minds of great writers like Burroughs, and in the land known as Pellucidar.

Another Great One!
This is the third book by Donna Sterling that I've read and I loved every one of them. She keeps getting better and better. Her characters are real, her writing smooth and her story compelling. WOW! Can't wait for more.

A great book!
Temperature's Rising was such a good book I hated to put it down! Definitely a "keeper". I also loved Donna Sterling's other book, "Say Ahhh". Can't wait for her next book!

I didn't think I'd like a romance novel, but I loved it.
I've never read a romance before. I was so surprised. This book is great. I couldn't stop reading, and when it was over, I wished it wasn't. I'd love to know which other romance books are really good. If anyone has suggestions, feel free to e-mail me.

Great Modern Stories.
Michael Swanwick is a modern writer. He writes very contemporary. His tales are strong, focused, and brilliant. Funy too -but in a dark sort of way.
They aren't suitable for everybody, I think, because of their mature themes. If you decide to buy a copy don't forget I warned you of their contents.
Many of these tales were nominated for major "literary" awards. Don't understand me wrongly: these are REAL literary stories.
Some other stories actually won awards. Left me wondering why not all of them won them. Swanwick's tales are head and shoulders above most other SF/F writing.
He writes novels too, but I urge you to start here. These stories are his best -and are better than his novels.
I have respect for this writer because he actually does write short stories after having gotten praise for his longer work. Most other writers break through with a couple of short stories -which most of the time aren't as interesting- and then start their mass-production of "novels." Fat bulks of paper written just for money. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they do actually keep the good stuff from getting a more prominent view. Soon shoppers forget about the good books -won't buy them anymore, and shops display only things that sell. Exit the good books.
Okay, buy this book and reward this interesting author/writer.
The best of speculative fiction remains to be found in short stories. These are short and all gem-like.
That's all from me.

Incredible
This collection of short stories is among the best ever written. Deeply profound, thoughtful and literary tales, these stories remind me of Franz Kafka and Philip K. Dick at their best. Swanwick utilizes science fiction in the exact way science fiction should be utilized: as a realistic and cautionary window into the future. His favorite themes include: The dangers of unfettered capitalism and emergence of corporate slave-labor; science and medical technology run amok; the nature of death, the soul, and the afterlife; and time travel and the complications involved in altering the past. He also seems to have an obsession with dinosaurs. If these themes sound like a recipe for intellectual and thoughtful literature, you are correct. Swanwick is able to convey fascinating philosophical concepts through his fiction, and does so with a clear and lucid style. Unlike some modern authors, Michael Swanwick does not try to experiment with an overly abstract or poetic style, and does not play tricks with the reader in an attempt to create a "new" style of writing prose. Swanwick sticks with a basic writing style, and invokes pioneering literary concepts through the actual content of his stories. This is mystical-realist literature at its best - realistic style and execution, combined with far-out mystical concepts.

The body of work of a true Master
Michael Swanwick's latest collection 'Tales of Old Earth' is masterful. The collection of stories ranges from Hard SF to the so-called Hard Fantasy (don't ask me to explain it). There are Hugo and World Fantasy Award Winners and numerous stories that were nominated for major awards.

It's unfortunate that Michael Swanwick isn't widely-recognized as the writer that he is. His work is consistently head-and-shoulders above the average work being turned out in the genre. But he writes predominantly short fiction, and short fiction never has, and never will be, recognized by the masses.

This is one of the best story collections I've ever read. There isn't a 'dog' in the bunch. Every story jumps out at the reader with its vibrancy. Michael Swanwick is a wordsmith of unparalleled talent. I have no doubt that he's the best writer of the current generation. I highly recommend this collection.
