Good read.
This one started off a bit slowly. The pace picked up, but it is a deliberate pace throughout.

The jacket had comparisons to Carl Hiaasen, but I did not really see that. Hiaasen's recent works have been peopled by characters that have become cartoonish and parodies. The characters in "Deadly Sweet" are far more plausable.

The main players are believeable and the plot makes sense. The comic element that Hiaasen brings is not present here, and to me that was a major plus.

It never becomes a fast read or a "page turner" in the strict sense. It progresses at a logical pace and the loose ends are tied up. The protagonists are easy to cheer for and it's easy to feel their losses along the way.

I enjoyed it. However, I felt the Hiaasen comparisons were off base, but that was a positive. Maybe reviewers think any novel set in Florida is Hiaasenesque.

It makes me want to stitch
Decorative Borders goes beyond the average, plain, frames for finished needlework. Many of these borders are works of art that can stand on their own. I am especially fond of the floral borders, but there are also instructions for borders appropriate for children, kitchen, beach settings, etc. This is a wonderful book for someone who is looking for a small project.

Good for Pre-K children
This is an excellent book for introducing young children to drugs...both the good and the bad. It is very helpful if there is abuse in the family and it needs to be explained to small children. It is a great book to open the lines of communication.

Used it to Homeschool my 3rd and 4th graders
I found the book fairly easy to use. I did have a few problems locating some art supplies but we are in a remote location. The kids enjoyed the different mediums and experimenting with their talents. Even my non-artistic son enjoyed the lessons. The book has NO art prints to view. It MUST be supplimented. I found most referenced prints online for free. We also went to our home library and the public library to view the artists works. I think this would work for many ages (7-18) and abilities. We did it as a one year study. We also used Focus on Composers.

Great for Traveling Eaters
A lot of fun to read; a couple dozen short stories about eating around the world. Nothing too serious or thought-provoking, but a nice book to relax with. It will make you want to take a vacation, though!

A very thorough account
This biography is carefully researched, with the footnotes where they belong--at the foot of the page. The authors have done a lot of research and their telling of the dramatic life and feats of Wiley Post makes for a fascinating book. The account of the two round-the-world flights is full of awesome momnets. There is a lot of technical flying data, and for the non-flyer this gets a bit long, as does the exhaustive account of the events following the crash on Aug 15, 1935. From the time that Wiley Post dies there are still 120 pages in the book, but much is interesting and the account of the world-wide grieving is poignant and well-done. There are good illustrations, tho also I would have liked a map of the the area where the crash occurred. But overall, this book tells the story well, and is well worth reading if you are interested in the life of a daring and gutsy early flyer, who should be remembered.
