The most fun you will ever have with paper and ink.
I first picked this up thinking it was an Raiders of the Lost Ark-type of adventure story. What I found was in reality a hilarious parody that plays with just about every adventure story cliche there is. Resnick introduces us to the right reverend Lucifer Jones. In the 1920's, Jones makes his way across Africa. This is a man who has a unique relationship with the almighty. He will pose as a man of the cloth spreading the word. In turn, God will turn a blind eye to Jones' attempt to break every one of the ten commandments. Jones also breakes every law of man and has a ball along the way. Jones meets up with Jungle lords, amazon princesses and egyptian mummies run amok. While Jones is a rouge and blackheart, you cant help bult like the guy. I do not have the descriptive power at my command to convey the sheer fun of reading this book. Read it for yourself and you will beg for more!

Abushed By Love
Abushed By Love is a book of stories of Kenyan Christians, mostly from the Kikuyu language group, who stood for their faith when their life was at stake. My wife and I have lived in Kenya for several years and have met several of these people whose stories are inclued.

The book grabs your attention and is hard to put down. The stories are on a parr with many of the heroes coming out of the Nazi era and other places where people were being forced to join a movement that could not gain alegence in normal ways. If one has to use force to get people to follow, there is something wrong with the idea or movement.

Concise and Elegant!
I used this book for a business school "Central Banking" class recently. Michael Mussa really knew what he was talking about, and he writes concisely and elegantly.

He analyzed the effects on the Argentinian economy of irresponsbible fiscal and monetary policies. And in the process of doing so, he also convincingly illustrated the intercation between fiscal and monetary policies and its implications in steering the economy in general.

Best book written on Argentinian economy I have ever read. Two-thumbs up!

amazing stories of persecution and triumph around the world.
This is a compilation of 18 stories about Christian people in repressive countries. One of my absolute favorites is the first. It is by a very intelligent young man in China. He was one of 5% of the entire population of China that scored well enough to be allowed to go to the University in Beijing in 1987. In 1989 the Chinese leadership shot and killed many of his classmates in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The author was sickened and disillusioned when he realized that Marxism had been his religion and he could not longer believe in it. He began to study all the old Chinese religions. He studied Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism etc but finally came to Christianity. He found that only Christianity spoke of the evil in man and the hope through Christ. He became a Christian though he knew that could lead to his arrest.

Some of the other stories are so stark - the difficulty to find a church, Bible or other believers in countries that are 99% Muslim. It definitely makes you realize how blessed we are in this country and how much we need to pray for and support our brothers in other countries!

Good book

I Really LIke This This Book
I had a wonderful time reading this book. It's more of a *long* essay than it is a book. The writing is excellent, and there are lots of wonderful photographs interspersed within. I don't know if it really matters, but for what it's worth I read part of this book while sitting at a table at Birdland on 46th Street in NYC waiting for my favorite up and coming piano player, David Epstein, to return from break to play another set. I have three books by Gary Giddins and like him so much I'm going to buy more of his books. By coinicidence I saw a video recently on the life of Charlie Parker, and it used many of the same photographs that were used in this book. I am not aware of a tie in between the two products however. In conclusion, this book was enjoyable and I learned a great deal about Charlie Parker from the point of view of his personality and his character and what his life was like.
