wow
This book is much more than I expected. I purchased it because of my interest in football, Dynamo Kiev, and because of my german-russian background. I expected a book about soccer and it was much more. It opened my eyes to the facts surrounding the occupation of Kiev and the Russian perspective of the war. The story draws you in and it is hard to put the book down. It is also very personal for somebody with ties to the Kiev area and people.
If you are interested in these subjects, you should read this book. You will not be disappointed.

Absolutely awe-inspiring!!!
Much more than a standard coffee-table book with spectacular pictures of the tallest mountain in the world, the stories in here can be read fluidly from front to back, giving a riveting and inspiring saga of man's explorations to this increasingly sought-after spot of our planet.

Lacking a little in the pre-western views/mythologies of this spectacular mountain and surrounding landscape, the book does make mention of most of some sherpa tradations, but basically focuses on some of their climbing aid to modern climbs.

Full of actual news clippings, excerpts from articles written by climbers, interviews, and of course incredible photography, this book is a great buy.

How China will make a mess of this prosperous, free city.
A must-read for those who want to learn why Hong Kong is Asia's success story today, but may well be a casualty of history after the transfer of sovereignty on 30 June 1997. It is the first book to look at Hong Kong not from the perspective of Britain, the present landlord, or China, the future one -- but instead tells the story from the viewpoint of the 6.3 million people who call Hong Kong home. Instead of the freedom, human rights and democracy promised to Hong Kong people, this book explains why Beijing will make a mess both of the transfer of sovereignty and the fragile free society Hong Kong is today

This Book Is A Triumph!
In 1990, I read a book that changed me from a 17 year pre-tribulation believer. The book was entitled THE PREWRATH RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH by Marvin Rosenthall. Ever since, I realized that the institutionalized Church uses the pre-trib theory as a tool and vehicle to increase memebership; it's what most of the Church wants to hear. This excellent writing only confirms the inaccuracy of this false doctrine of the Second Coming of Christ and the so-called secret rapture (which is TOTALLY UNSCRIPTURAL). It is written in a way in which all views are represented, but, with any logical understanding, renders the popular pre-trib theory nothing less than a fairy tale. If you are a serious, rightly-dividing-the word-of-truth Christian, then you must read this book!

Excellent analysis of Young's UN career
Mr. Jones provides a wonderful analysis of Andrew Young's time as US permrep at the UN in this work. He covers Young's work with various individuals and nations and his numerous perceived and real mistakes in his time in that position. The opinions of other leading US foreign policy formulators of the time, like Cyrus Vance and President Carter, are discussed, as are those by other scholars who have often overlooked key points in their ideological condemnations. Well worth reading for anyone interested in Young, recent history or US foreign policy.

Only in Hollywood!!
For an enjoyable and humorous "read" about a person who worked in the movie and television industry, this is the book of all books!! Kris has a delightful sense of humor and it's apparent by not only some of her antics, but by her observations, interactions, and conversations with some of these people in the entertainment business.

She takes you "behind the scenes" at a baseball wrap party, she talks about being a "star polisher" but my VERY favorite of all of her escapades is the "walrus woman." That is all I will say - one has to read it to believe it!! In her own words, Kris writes: "Most business people have a sixth sense about what is appropriate behavior in certain situations. I possess the same keen insight, but there's a part of me that wants to buck traditional etiquette and be outrageous . . ."

That should be the best preview to some of her exploits. I leave it to you to get ready to laugh and laugh and laugh!! Buy one for you and buy one for a friend. They'll be glad you did!

A gripping story of a recreation of an epic flight.
An incredible book about an incredible flight. It is difficult to know which is the more interesting -- the historical part of the book about the original Smith brothers flight, or Peter McMillan's account of his modern day recreation of the same flight. As an aviation buff I loved the detail of how the airplane was built (using the original plans) and tested and then the day-by-day chronicle of the flight. The chapter about the crash in Indonesia (by uncanny coincidence in virtually the same place as the Smith brothers 75 years before) is a great read. Highly recommended.

A powerful memoir and personal account of hope
Kathy's severe hearing loss lead to an early diagnosis of mental retardation: she was also molested, run over, and stricken with cancer all before the age of thirty but she never lost her sense of humor. If You Could See What I Hear provides her life story and how she kept this sense of humor through the darkest of days. A powerful memoir and personal account of hope.
