How to overcome a painful childhood
Each chapter is the true story of a child who endured terrible physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse, yet managed to grow into an adult capable of working, loving, giving, and enjoying. Many of the abuses are so horrific, and the stories and characters are so well-drawn, that it is impossible not to weep for these children, or to be awed by their heroic strength. I found the last chapter particularly interesting and useful: it is a list and description of the characteristics these resilient children had in common. Learning and applying these characteristics, even as an adult, can give individual suffering some meaning and lead to a happier life. I have given this book to my friends who continue to struggle against the effects of terrible childhoods. Recognizing themselves in the book is healing in and of itself. My friends and I are grateful to Ms. Rubin for this helpful work.

If you're a Triumph enhusiast, get this one!
The 2000 and 2500 was probably the biggest international success that Triumph had, and therefore this account of their history will have wide appeal. It tells the whole story of the car's history, from its development stages, to its production life. An interesting chapter is about the Zebu project, which was later abandoned, because it echoed the reverse-slope rear window seen in the very successful Ford Anglia 105 E. It is because of these, and other previously-unknown facts that this book is so highly recommended. Graham Robson knows these cars like nobody else, mainly because he worked for Triumph for many years. Some people might say that this makes him biased, but it is better to have the comments by someone who witnessed every stage of the car's development than those of someone who did not. However, there is one small point of criticism from a South African point of view. South Africa was the first country to introduce a twin-carburettor version of the 2,5 named the Chicane, and hardly any mention is made of this model. The author knows what is going on in South Africa, judging by previous books he has written, and for this reason, this is a surprising oversight. Despite this criticism, this book must be rated as a mandatory purchase for anybody who has owned these cars. For British car enthusiasts, this is a very interesting read, and it just shows that, with the demise of Triumph, enthusiasts have been deprived of what might have been a deadly BMW rival.

Practical Triumph Twin Maintenance.
I have in the past read and made use of many of the Haynes manuals for a variety of motorcycles, both domestic and foreign, and, without much doubt ,this is one of the best ones. It reaches to over two hundred pages in length and unusualy for them has no serious omisions or errors and manages to cover all aspects of the unit heavyweight Triumph twins practically and comprehensivley for the home maintenance enthusiast. This being one of the manuals which has been regularly updated over the years the coverage of the late Harris models and the advice on parts availability is far more usable than other titles they have put out in the past, it even manages to be a good read if you are less practically interested. Perhaps the standard here is higher because of the competition in the market but it still manages to be a highly reccomended buy - well I bought one so it must be your turn next - what are you waiting for?

Great stories. One of those books you want to read again.
This is a collection of short stories that stays with you. At first, "the Triumph," "The Hero," and "Reunion" were my favorites. The author has a wicked sense of humor. You come to know and love all of the stories and to see something new at each reading. Also, most of the stories are fun to read out loud.

Triumph in Exile - A Triumphant First Novel!
"Triumph in Exile", a first novel by Victoria Schmidt, is a masterful effort which makes history come alive in a fascinating way! Over twenty years of research went into the writing of this book. It is a riveting story of the political and social life in Napoleonic Paris, dominated by Madame Germaine de Stael, who eventually challenged Napoleon after he had exiled her.

There are beautiful descriptive passages and marvelous characterizations providing for a truly mesmerizing page-turner! The author, and her Alma Mater, Douglass College, have every right to be justly proud of this superior book. I'm certain that no reader will be disappointed. I look forward to a fabulous movie!
