Francis & Bonaventure (Triumph Christian Thinkers)
Published in Paperback by Liguori Publications (September, 1997)
Authors: Paul Rout and Peter Vardy

Used price: $3.18

Very Disappointing Book
Although the author is a noted theologian this work really did not satisfy the criteria for a complete study of the subject. The biographies were shallow and the examination of mystical experience laughable. It reads like a Sunday school book of 'inspiration' for 13 year olds with 'religious feelings'.

Two remarkable leaders following same path, different ways
Rout's book is simply the *best* summary of the lives, thoughts, and actions of Francis of Assisi and his second-generation disciple and expositor, Bonaventure. With clarity and agility, Rout traces the lives of both men, showing the former's charismatic personality and the latter's scholarly excellence and how both used their gifts in spreading the good news of God's love in Jesus Christ to the people of their time. Since Bonaventure is the systematic theologian and was the most significant early Franciscan to give shape to Francis' wisdom, Rout concentrates on his writings and thoughts a great deal, but in no way excludes the life of Francis nor its profound impact on people to this very day. Rout's final chapter on Francis encounter with the Sultan as the basis for modern ecumenical dialogue is excellent. There is simply nothing about this book not to like. It is short and to the point, doesn't get lost in theological jargon, is accessible to anyone, and is profound in its reflections on the experience of God these two had and how it relates to living a Christian life today. As an admirer of both, I highly recommend this book to anyone else who does, and who believes there is more to medieval theology than Thomas Aquinas!!

Beautiful, throughful little book...
Every page of this easy-to-read book is inspiring and worth taking a highlighter to! I loved the prayers and quotes that were included; they showed the sensitivity and compassion of these two wonderful saints. A beautiful book for sure!

Tender Triumph
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (July, 1994)
Author: Judith McNaught

Disappointing - to say the least!
This book lacked the sort of wit, passion and sexual tension we've all come to expect from Judith McNaught. And it was boring (I only finished it because I had nothing better to do). If you buy this book expecting the usual magic from Judith Mcnaught - forget it, buy another book. I've read most of Judith Mcnaught's books and all had been excellent, that's why I was so disappointed with this one. No where near the class of "Until You", "Perfect", and "Something Wonderful".

NOT GOOD ENOUGH
i had to keep glancing at the book cover to be sure i was reading a JM. I mean she's one of the best of romance writers. this was a disapointment to me. i've read almost all her books and i've always wanted to keep them to myself xcept borrow my close friends, until this. i hate it when men try to "test" a woman's trust and love, which was what Ramon did. the story generally lacked depth which is part of what makes JM an all time best and the customary JM'S classic humorous dialogue was missing... good for whiling away time.

One of her best
I have read every one of Judith McNaught's books, but this is one of my all-time favorites. I have read it so many times that I have to rubberband the book to keep it together. Ramon and Katie are a delight and the story is entertaining.

Total Digimon: The Complete Player and Collector's Guide to Every Card and Character

DO NOT GET THIS BOOK!
Even though I am a Digimon fan, there is TOO MANY MISTAKES in this book!If you want a good Digimon guide get the official digimon character guide. There is mistakes in that one was well, but only a little.

Pojo's Total Digimon
This is an exact duplicate of their Card Collector World magazine Special Digimon issue. This is OLD information. I bought their magazine and then bought this book. Since this book is exactly like their magazine THIS WAS a total waste of my money. Creativity is poor.

Well-inentioned, but full of mistakes.
The writers of this book sound like Digimon fans, espeically when one article author describes his lengthy hunt for the original LCD virtual pets.

However, the proofreading leaves a little to be desired. For each of the Digi-destined, they have pictures of their Digimon in various stages, taken from the cards. However, cards and names do not always match.

i.e.: Gabumon; Agumon card is shown. A Candlemon card is shown instead of Zudomon.

The names of the kids' crests are sometimes incorrect, and WarGreymon is constantly spelled WereGreymon.

This probably won't mean much to the younger fans, however, who get to look at pictures of the toys, cards, and Digimon, as well as a mini episode guide.

Though this is better if you're looking for an alternative to buying more than one Digmon book (i.e., one for the cards, one for the characters, etc.) it's still a decent Digimon book, if you can ignore some of the glaring errors

Tracking the Axis Enemy: The Triumph of Anglo-American Naval Intelligence

Too Much Sand, Too Little Cement
It ought to be called tracking the bureaucratic enemy within. It might be a chronicle of the victory of necessity over bureaucratic inertia and turf wars, but it is as dull as a gray stone on a gray wall. There are loads of minutiae about personalities, dates, mistrust, etc. No doubt but that this is historical information ought to be recorded somewhere, but not where I might plunk down my money and buy it. There is next to nothing about technique or efficacy. Read the library's copy. This one is going back to the used book store (if they will take it back).

Bedevilled by Bureaucracy
The title of Alan Harris Bath's book, The Triumph of Anglo-American Naval Intelligence: Tracking the Axis Enemy might better be How the Brits and Americans came to love each other and succeed inspite of themeselves. Fully the first half of the book focuses on the byzantine workings of three governments bordering on the Atlantic to coordinate their efforts and information: Canada, England and the United States. By way of perspective, it must be remembered that even in the interwar period, many American military planners still considered England the greatest single potential threat. The paradigm shift from foe to friend probably required a great deal of soul searching for the participants--it certainly required a great deal of tedious writing from the author of this book.

Bath in his final chapter, In Retrospect, provides a concise overview of the problems that faced the producers, handlers and users of strategic and operational intelligence. Obviously an experienced military intelligence professional, Bath summarizes many of the problems in military inteeligence, and gives the reader a good understanding of the complexities of coaltition and allied operational intelligence planning, gathering processing and dissemination.

In the absence of unclassified single volume works on the subject of naval intelligence in World War II, Bath's book is a necessary evil, but I would read only the introduction, Chapters 5 & 9, and the conclusion.

21st Century Guide to Operation Iraqi Freedom The Second Gulf War 2003 America¿s Triumph in the War on Terrorism with the Liberation of Iraq and the Toppling of Saddam Hussein - Historic Photos, Videos, and Reports from the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines (Two CD-ROM Set)

Packed with info, but no organization
This CD set is a compilation of articles and photos from the Internet and military web sites during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The web pages have been distilled into PDF documents. Though the idea is good in concept, and the CD is packed with information, it's difficult to navigate for three reasons: 1-) Links to the internet may or may not work and it's not clear which ones will work, 2-) there's just no logic to the organization or lack thereof, and 3-) most CDs offering PDF file format at least setup bookmarks and indexes for each of the documents. Some of the documents are thousands of pages long, but there is no index. So, it's tough to get through. I was disappointed that the editor/creator did not take the time to burn the larger image files to archive with the docs; many of the images are just thumbnails. If you're interested in tons of information you have to sift through, this is it. If you want to use it as a research tool, the time you spend looking for specific information will undoubtedly discourage you.

some nice pictures, but text is indeed fluff.
An example of fluff would be his treatment of the carpenter, mercury 7 flight. There was more to it then "as he twirled around in space....his fuel began to run out". Read carpenters book, "for spacious skies", or slayton's "deke!'. don't pay attention to chris craft's "flight".

Not at all what I thought
I thought this book would be an academic or scholarly examination of men's sexual lives, with some detail into why they are often so different from women's sexual lives.

It is not.

It is, by and large, just a collection of "Letters to Penthouse magazine" covering mostly the more prurient aspects of sexual fantasy.

Not at all what I thought, and not at all recommended for anything other than pure sexual enticement to the very nontraditional view.

Original Triumph Stag
Published in Hardcover by Bay View Books Ltd (June, 1999)
Authors: James Taylor, Rowan Isaac, and Mark Hughes
Amazon base price: $34.95
Used price: $27.50
Average review score:

A sad day for Triumph Stag restorers and enthusiasts
The book has some excellent color photography but is let down by lack of detail in the text and photo captions. Some of the cars used for photographic reference, especially in the Federal section, are not totally original. The worst part is the captions and text do not point this out. The most glaring errors are the under hood shots of the Federal cars. Examples are: Page 80, one has a rotary air conditioning compressor, the original is a York twin cylinder; incorrect ignition leads, no fan cowling, plastic cooling fan (should be metal), there were other shots that did not show original components. The ironic part is the paragraph in the front cover inset, it states "Several cars, such as a remarkable Mk 1 photographed in the United States, have been preserved throughout their lives by just one careful owner, making them exceptional survivors in unrestored and correct condition". This statement is far from the truth. Mr Taylor's other Stag books were very good, this was very dissapointing. This is especially so when people purchase this book as a reference document.

This is a collection of articles and photos from the press covering Tiger Woods during the 4 continous major wins in 2000-2001. Though worth a reading, would recommend only for Tiger fans.

Triumph and Bsa Triples
Published in Hardcover by Crowood Pr (March, 1997)
Author: Mick Duckworth
Amazon base price: $34.95
Used price: $29.04
Average review score:

Disappointed
This book is dedicated to the production and racing history of the Triples, but not much of it is useful. It has a few pages of color pictures, but only covers a few model years, and even the bikes pictured are not original, and have been modified.

There is only a few scant mentions of the Rocket III, and very, very little in terms of detailed info. If you are interested in the history of the racing triples this is for you. If you are looking for information for restoration purposes, keep looking. This isn't it.
