As far as I know, Durand's book is completely unique - there are no other books specifically on coping with sleep problems in children with special needs, even though they are unusually prone to developing sleep problems (which are also not always susceptible to the methods designed for "normal" children).

Durand's advice is built on a solid foundation of research, but written clearly and without jargon. He's also not out to "sell" a particular method or program as the cure-all: he describes a number of different methods, giving the pros and cons of each, so that parents can make an informed decision about what is likely to work with their child.

Incidentally, the information in the book might also help an adult (disabled or non-disabled) sort out any sleep problems of theirs as a free bonus.

SLICES OF HOPE AND INSPIRATION by Dr.Vincent Kituku is a useful resource for those working on their personal life, as well as those looking for materials for application within the classroom. It contains a variety of stories which I believe to be very good for developing conflict resolution programs in the schools, illustrating the social skills necessary for peaceful interactions.

I wisely packed the book Some Cows to a casting call. If you know those "experiences," a poor child can sit around for an hour or two before they are called. I believe we read the book no less than fifty times in ninety minutes. It could have been a disaster but Edgar stayed with the book each time and wanted more. As the reader I was pleased that it is clever in rhyming and giving these little cows personality. The artists also provde such pleasant humorous illustrations. These are not cows that I can easily forget. If you're going to read a book over again, I would recommend this one very very much.

Some Pigs is a terrific little book!

UNPLUGGED has been billed as an anti-novel and believe me it delivers. Sure you've read plenty of books with anti-heroes but how about anti-villains of the polite and genteel variety? UNPLUGGED is an ambitious novel, dense with layers of meaning and rife with irony. Sakowski has a gift for illustrating the absurd.

Follow our "hero", The Man, as he makes his way through countless ridiculous and chilling situations. Picture a kingdom of marionettes ruled by an Emperor, a penguin of course. Meet half-crazed citizens clutching their most prized possessions close to them, their misfortunes. Sounds a bit like your average cocktail party in the modern day.

Stylistically UNPLUGGED is like an amputating scalpel under operating theater lights. Razor sharp and clinical, Sakowski's words cut to the heart of the matter while casting glittering reflections on countless topics. The combination of stripped bare prose with complex images and ideas creates a dizzying effect which makes you wonder how such a slim volume can contain so much. Put this one down on your reading list, twice.

THIS IS THE PERFECT BOOK FOR ANYONE WANTING TECHNICAL ADVICE ON THE SPECIAL MAKE-UP EFFECTS ART FORM. TRUST ME, READ THIS EDUCATIONAL BOOK AS SOON AS YOU CAN BECAUSE KNOLEDGE IS POWER.

This is an excellent book, which my sister used, and has greatly enjoyed. My mother also found it extremly easy to teach her with. JUST EXCELLENT!

SPINE SECRETs is the latest in the "SECRETS" series of books and I would highly recomend it to anyone training in the spine field. I am a physician assistant and have worked in the spine field for over 5 years. During that time, I have worked with countless orthopedic residents who were doing their spine rotation and three different spine fellows. We all studied from the same materials and would have benefited greatly from this book.

Our office had volumes of books about information that is succinctly covered in this book including, anatomy, clinical evaluation of patients with back problems, review of various imaging modalities of the spine and review of orthosis for the spine. The book also contains an extensive review of adult and pediatric deformities and disorders including idiopathic scoliosis and tumor.

I wouldn't consider this a surgery book. And if you are planning on performing spine surgery, I hope you are reading other texts as well, but this book has some impressive detail. Many chapters offer details and tips on surgical techniques with very nice illustrations. For those who see the patient in clinic before surgery or in the hospital postoperativly, there are chapters specifically addressing those issues.

One of the frustrating things about studying spine is where to start. This book gives you a good place to start. Like I said, it is succinct but it is comprehensive. If you are going to remember anything it is not a fast read, give it some time, it fits in your lab coat pocket!

One of Passport Books "Caribbean Sunseekers" series, St. Vincent & Grenadines is small sized (7 x 4 x 1/2 inches) and has durable, water resistent pages. It includes historical, cultural, dining, and lodging information, but most of it is devoted to site-seeing and recreation. There is a map of St. Vincent, one of Kingstown, and one of the Grenadines. It is illustrated with colorful photos. This book is useful in planning and makes a nice souvenir, but it really shines as a take-along guide.
