A Case of Notarial Imperfections
Published in Hardcover by Dorrance Pub. Co. (August, 1987)
Author: Vincent L. Hoffart
Amazon base price: $16.95
Average review score:

The Allegations of Mr. Hoffart are incorrect, and fanatical
Presidential conspiracies, court corruptions, and pure paranoia affirm the only truth contained within this tome's covers: Hoffart is a legal psychopath. Though claiming to support the 'public interest' (isn't that the job of the FCC?!), Hoffart's ulterior motives glare from within: he is bitter about a termination from a station decades ago. Don't submit to Hoffart's propaganda, and keep your hard-earned in your wallet!

Good Bookend
In my college physics course, I frequently found myself throwing this textbook against the wall and referring to my "Cartoon Guide to Physics" (Gonick..highly recommended). This entire book should be reduced to the summaries at the end of the chapter, for all else is useless jumble. I spend 4 hours trying to figure out the difference between a parallel and a series circuit, concluding that the best option would be a physics bonfire. Would this book conduct electric charge, where would the field lines point? I don't know, because I read this book.

The Diary of Rexford G. Tugwell: The New Deal, 1932-1935 (Contributions in Economics and Economic History)
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Publishing Group (May, 1992)
Author: Michael Vincent Namorato
Amazon base price: $86.95
Average review score:

Leaves too much out
Tugwell liked to write but the author likes to edit too much. It is common knowledge by New Deal historians Tugwell had affairs but Namorato does not show this in his research. Instead he provides the reader with entry after entry of business Tugwell was conducting. What about the secret letters to his girlfriend? The author does not want to show us the dark side of Tugwell because he is afraid the reader is too weak minded to be able to come up with his on conclusion about this Tugwell. Michael Namorato needs to be honest and show us all of his research.

Forty Rounds : An Irish Regiment in the Civil War
Published in Paperback by John V. Noonan (09 December, 1999)
Author: J. Vincent Noonan
Amazon base price: $13.95
Average review score:

Beware of "Forty Rounds"
My low rating for this book is a consequence of buying it thinking it was a legitimate history of a Civil War regiment. Nothing in the ads or on the cover of the book suggests that it is a work of fiction. It is actually a fictional account of the 90th Illinois based on, according to the author, almost nothing. He maintains that he wrote it because he was unsuccessful "in finding any period accounts, letters, or memoirs" relating to this regiment. He wants the reader " to understand and appreciate what these men went through," yet he is making it all up! How are we to understand this book as anything other than the fantasies of the author's mind? There are no notes, no bibliography, and no mention of any sources this book was based on. We are assured, however, that he had no sources that related specifically to his subject. Let the buyer beware!

Great Careers for People Interested in the Past (Career Connections)

Overpriced!
It took 10 minutes to read this skinney book! I got the book for a high school student who loves history, but the ideas for careers were pretty far fetched (being an auctioneer, restoring old cars, for example). Not much substance. Big disappointment! I am returning my copy.

Italian/English Business Glossary (Routledge Business Language Glossaries)

Italian/English Business Glossary
For my purposes, I found this book to be very inadequate, if not inutile. I have a workable knowledge of the Italian language in both a conversational and written (in terms of journalism and literature) sense, but my business vocabulary is seriously lacking. Hence,I thought it prudent to purchase this book to help me with a project I am doing at work for which I must read Italian financial and insurance company and related informational websites to write a report on e-commerce in the Italian finance/insurance market. As in English, there are many every-day words in Italian that when put in a business context take on a different meaning. This book did not contain any of these words for which I needed definitions. In fact, what is included in this book are the larger words for which most people wouldn't require a glossary, because the words resemble their English counterparts. Another thing that this book seriously lacked was a glossary for acronyms and abbreviations, which as any businessman knows, are bandied about in the business world like take-out menus in a New York apartment building. You won't even find the English or Italian translation for S.p.A....not even under societa. I recommend looking elsewhere for your business Italian language needs.

Jobs and Activities After Retirement
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (July, 2001)
Author: Vincent A. Miller
Amazon base price: $16.95
Buy one from zShops for: $16.95
Average review score:

Not quite what I expected.
I purchased this book because it was the only one I found that addresses only the topic of jobs and activities after retirement. Most retirement books focus on the financial aspects of retirement. If I had looked at this book in a store, I would not have purchased it. The author shares anecdotes of how some people selected the job or activity they are currently doing in retirement. I expected a much more detailed and serious listing. I do not have a desire to be a clown when I retire.

Although I helped to write it, I don't like it.
I am the former assistant to Willis Green, Jr. who wrote the entire passage credited to him within this book. Dr. Vincent Lynch, who I collaborated with extensively during Mr. Green's illness, knowingly and purposely refused to grant any sort of credit to my input. Sadly, many of my words were taken from lyrics of George Michael music...isn't that silly?
